This beginners course will take you step by step through the basics of sewing. You will be taught over 3 workshops (Thurs evenings).
This is an introduction to sewing course which takes place over three weeks (on Thursday evenings).
Small class size (3 people) to make sure everyone gets plenty of support.
You can bring your own machine or use one of Make’s.
Take the free pattern home after the course.
Skills you will gain:

– Cutting fabric from a pattern
– Overlocker operation
– Making French seams
– Making roulard loops and tie belt
– Facing and interfacing
– Marking out even hems
– Make and sew even patch pockets
Week 1
Learn about textiles and how choosing the correct fabric for your project will make the finished result more successful.
You will have the opportunity to practice sewing in a straight line, hems and french seams. You will alter stitch length and thread tension to achieve a perfect stitch.
You will have the opportunity to practice on the overlocker before you use it on your project.
You will practice your new skills by making a scrunchie for your hair.
Materials
The information on textiles may give you the confidence to go and buy some beautiful fabric for you project. Anita also has some very good quality pure white cotton lawn that will be available for sale (£2.50 a metre) if you don’t have time for shopping. You don’t need the fabric until the second week – week one is for practising your techniques only.
Week 2
Cutting out your fabric, learning about grainlines, selve edges and correct folding of fabric for cutting
Next you will start to assemble the robe by sewing side seams and sleeves together then neatening with the overlocker.
You will make and insert belt loops into the side seam. Scissors and pins will be supplied
Week 3
You will sew on a facing to the front and the neckline and topstitch for a neat edge.
You will make the belt and add pockets if desired
You will now finish of the robe and sleeve hems with a deep double folded hem for a luxurious finish
And last but not least – you will try on your gorgeous new Kimono Robe and give yourself a massive pat on the back!!!
