In this WoWFest keynote talk, in celebration of Black History Month 2020, Shami Chakrabarti will examine our current moment from a human rights perspective.

The event is held online, 2 October, 7pm, WoWFest Facebook page.

The resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement has captured the imaginations and hopes of millions of people of all nations and races. Yet too many others have responded with dismissal, fear and even loathing.

From the disproportionate impact of the pandemic and its handling on black lives, continuing brutality by police and security forces the world over, the ongoing refugee crisis, to the social media platforms that profit from online hate- this talk is about trying to understand the scale of the problem and how we might unite towards peaceful, sustainable and more equal resolution.

Shami Chakrabarti (Baroness Chakrabarti CBE PC) is a human rights lawyer and campaigner, Labour Peer and was Shadow Attorney General for England and Wales from September 2016 to April 2020.
