The Williamson Art Gallery and Museum are delighted to host this small display of historic bicycles from the collection of the Museum of Liverpool. The exhibition coincides with the cycling Tour of Britain and OVO Energy Tour Series being staged in Wirral this Summer.
The exhibition will offer a glimpse into the history of bicycle development. and perfectly compliment a contemporary designer bike created from laminated wood by the Spanish company Cyclowood.
Cyclowood make unique bicycles from precious woods such as ash, teak, walnut and cedar, and it takes more than 80 hours just to apply the varnish! This bike has been lent for the display by FINSA UK, based in Birkenhead Docks.
The exhibition includes the classic ‘penny-farthing’ (or ‘Ordinary’) bicycle, and a selection from the late 19th century alongside 20th century designs.
The exhibition runs from May until September – spanning the season of cycling events in Wirral and will run concurrently with the Six Vessels exhibition, exploring the stories behind the history of shipbuilding in Wirral.
