Many local makers have worked on the Bluecoat Display Centre Outreach Programme at local hospitals over the past eight years, running workshops for patients on acute hospital wards.
The legacy of these workshops is a series of maker commissions, installed at the hospitals, which have been directly informed by the maker’s experience of meeting and working with the patients and staff.
This insightful tour will start at the Bluecoat Display Centre with an introductory talk by the Making a Difference exhibition curator Claire Smith.
The exhibition features makers who have been part of their outreach programme.
A minibus will then take the group to the Royal Liverpool Hospital, Alder Hey Children’s, Broadgreen and The Walton Centre.
At each hospital the project lead will give a brief introduction to the artist residencies from their perspective.
At each site, one of the residency makers will speak about their experiences and the resulting final permanent hospital commission.
The trip will end back in the city centre.
