Step into the immersive world of Alice, with art, collectables and craft all inspired by the legacy of Alice in Wonderland.

An exploration of the origins of Alice in Wonderland and the creativity that Lewis Carroll’s masterpiece has sparked. A chance meeting in the grounds of Oxford University over 150 years ago inspired a story that continues to fire the imagination to this day.

The meeting was between Charles Ludwig Dodgson and a young lady by the name of Alice Liddell. Dodgson was none other than Lewis Carroll and Alice Liddell became immortalised as Alice in the Wonderland tale.

This exhibition features iconic images by Dodgson and his contemporaries and examines the continuing fascination with a story that has inspired artists and craftspeople across the generations.

Highlights of the exhibition include:

  • Original sketches by Lewis Carroll, which he drew for “Alice’s Adventures Under Ground”
  • Original wood blocks used for the prints in the book
  • Salvador Dalí’s rarely seen ‘Alice in Wonderland’ illustrations
  • Collections of Alice material from the British Library and Macmillan Publishers
  • Illustrations from contemporary local artists
  • Alice in Wonderland dress up
