Metal is proud to host internationally renowned cellist and composer Lucy Railton and emerging sound artist Beau Beaumont.
Lucy Railton is one of the best recognised names in classical and experimental music as a performer, composer and programmer. Having co-founded London Contemporary Music Festival and Kammer Klang in 2013 and 2008 respectively Lucy has gone on to working with numerous artists around the world as well as producing solo pieces that bring together electronics, field recordings and classical instrumentation.
Her discography includes debut album Paradise 94 (Modern Love, 2018), an improvised duet with keyboardist Kit Downes recorded in Skálholt Cathedral, Iceland (Subaerial, SN Variations, 2021), and a collaboration with legendary synthesizer inventor and composer Peter Zinovieff (RFG Inventions for Cello and Computer, PAN, 2019).
In early 2020 Lucy produced 5 S-Bahn (Boomkat Editions), a series of cello recordings outside of a Berlin train station, capturing and responding to the changing audio environment under lockdown. Lucy also works across disciplines having worked with choreographer Akram Khan, theatre director Sasha Milavic Davies, and film director John Lee, and recently recorded cello for Does Spring Hide Its Joy? by Kali Malone, exhibited at the Hydraulic Tower in Birkenhead for Abandon Normal Devices.
Beau Beaumont is a sound artist and composer, using field recordings, experimental synthesis and collaboration with musicians to explore deep listening and our relationship with movement.
Location and music are strongly linked in all aspects of Beau’s work, from hosting ‘Meine Nacht’ events in various secret locations in Liverpool to recording journeys, contested spaces and setting up her studio in a disused shopping centre. Her debut record, Trahere (Superpang) was released earlier this year, documenting the historic Liverpool to Manchester trainline using bespoke microphones to picking up ground movement.
