Our Dreams of Jasmine: book launch and poetry listening

Admission Book free Eventbrite ticket
Start Time 13:30
End Time 16:00

Poetry as a Gift, a Feeling, and a Portal.

Our Dreams of Jasmine is a multi-lingual publication, and co-produced sound piece, containing a collection of love poems selected by women with experience of migration and written by artist Jessica El Mal.

The love poems span romantic desire and longing, peaceful admiration for flowers and spring, and deep, deep friendships. In the languages of English, Arabic, and Persian, even our very concept of love surpasses one meaning.

In the full bloom of Summer, this July you are invited to join us for the launch of Our Dreams of Jasmine publication, and the first public sharing of the sound piece, taking place in Bootle Library’s Garden, recently reimagined by Harun Morrison.

An arrival DJ set with sound producer Yasmeen Soudani will guide us into a live listening of Our Dreams of Jasmine. The live listening will be followed by readings from the book, a performance from musician and vocalist Rita Kamale, and women involved in the project.

Our Dreams of Jasmine is a project by artist and curator Jessica El Mal in collaboration with sound producer Yasmeen Soudani, musician and vocalist Rita Kamale, and co-producers Sohailla Mirzai, Shefaa, Aliya, Ayana, Fatimeh Al Sabty, Reem Alazemi, Fatima Aidarous, Soulaf Al Kort, and literary translator Noussaiba Roussi.

They are excited to host their launch as an associate event of this year’s Liverpool Arab Arts Festival, celebrating Arab arts and culture.

Booking is essential, spaces are limited. Please book your free place on Eventbrite.

If you have any questions, email hello@atthelibrary.co.uk, or message/text/WhatsApp: 07751240427. Please contact them to discuss your access needs and how they can cater for them during the event.
