To coincide with the China’s First Emperor and the Terracotta Warriors Exhibition in Liverpool, we are proud to present a complementary exhibition of cutting edge contemporary art that celebrates our current relationship with China and looks to the future.
The artists included cover a range of themes including consumerism, technology, connectivity and the individual’s place in the world today. The sculptures, paintings, installations, videos and photographs are installed throughout the St George’s Hall, including spaces not normally open to the public. Works by 19 artists, never exhibited in their entirety will punctuate the gallery spaces hidden in the Vaults of the Hall.
The exhibition provides a window into work by some of the best artists across Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the diaspora.
All works belong to the University of Salford Art Collection and this is first time the New Collection of Chinese Contemporary Art has been displayed in full. Formed through a partnership with the Centre for Chinese Contemporary Art in Manchester, this Collection offers a unique window into artistic practice and 21st century culture across China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
This exhibition is part of China Dream: Contemporary Chinese Art X Liverpool, a major arts season aimed at capturing the reality of culture in modern China and the relationship between China and the UK.
Please note the exhibition is closed on Monday’s and Tuesday’s. Please visit the website above for opening times.
