Rediscovering the Radical: Theatre & Social Change Summer School will develop participants’ ability to use theatre to contribute to radical social and political change in the 21st century.

The 2018 Rediscovering the Radical: Theatre & Social Change Summer School is designed for those who are working, volunteering or have an interest in applied, participatory or community arts or using creativity as a means to community development, activism and protest. It will be a mixture of stimulating inputs, provocative conversations and insightful peer-learning. The summer school will provide practical activity, structured reflection and the chance to explore new ways of thinking about the work.

Over the course of this two-day event participants will:

  • Learn why it is important to engage decision makers and politicians in the creative process, and ways and means of doing so
  • Explore the challenges of making radical social and political theatre within the current neo-liberal and political climate
  • Interrogate the ethical considerations and processes of making art and theatre from other people’s direct lived experiences

And develop their practice in:

  • Empowering communities
  • Making verbatim and documentary theatre
  • The Living Newspaper
  • Improvisation as a tool for change
  • Forum theatre and legislative theatre

The Summer School will be stimulating, fun and useful.  It will also be a great opportunity to meet others working in your field and strengthen your support network.
