Gillian Joseph is the Sky News Award Winning Presenter who anchored the special global “Black Lives Matter“ debate on Sky News in June 2020. Gillian will be giving this year’s Roscoe Lecture.

The debate programme on “Race and Revolution: Is Change Going to Come” attracted a panel of experts including Actor David Oyelowo, Advertisement Executive Karen Blackett, Historian David Olusoga and Ex-Universities Minister Sam Gyimah.
Gillian started her broadcasting career with the BBC in Manchester before becoming a radio reporter and producer with Radio Merseyside. During her time in Liverpool, she was one of the first to break the news of the Jamie Bulger murder case in 1993.
She went on to join BBC Radio 1 in 1988, reporting for their ‘Black Britain’ programme, and both the one and six o’clock News, ‘Newsnight’ and ‘Holiday’.
She also presented a Sunday morning reflective news show on BBC London 94.9FM and regularly presented for BBC5 Live. Playing a major role in the coverage of the aftermath of the 2004 Asian Tsunami Gillian has reported from locations across the globe.
Presented with a Race in the Media Award from the Commission of Racial Equality and in 2004, Gillian won the European Federation of Black Women Business Owners’ award for professionalism in her field.
Gillian has been with Sky News since 2005, presenting the late evening strands, including ‘Sky News at Ten’ and ‘Live at Five’.
She has broken several stories live on air including, the death of former Russian security officer Alexander Litvinenko who was poisoned in 2006, and the Amish school shooting in Pennsylvania in which 5 girls were killed before the gunman took his own life.
