FACT Liverpool is delighted to announce that its new Head of Programme will be Maitreyi Maheshwari.
Maitreyi joins FACT from Zabludowicz Collection, London, which she joined in 2007 before becoming Programme Director in 2014. Responsible for overseeing their programme of exhibitions, residencies and events, Maitreyi has also previously worked on the interaction programme at Artangel and the youth programme at Tate Modern. Maitreyi succeeds Ana Botella, who left the role of Head of Programme in August after seven years.
At FACT, Maitreyi will manage an ambitious artistic programme that connects with science and digital technologies to engage people with some of the most pressing challenges of today. She will also help to shape FACT’s talent development programme for the next generation of artists, film-makers and creative technologists in Liverpool. 2019 has been a landmark year for FACT, with a series of exhibitions and events exploring gender, identity and representation. 2020 will be FACT’s Year of the Living Planet, addressing our responsibility to pass on a habitable planet for future generations of humans and non-humans – presenting new framings and suggesting ways in which we can respond to the challenges that face us.
Maitreyi Maheshwari said: “I am thrilled to be joining FACT as Head of Programme, working with new Director Nicola Triscott and the brilliant team as we shape the future of this institution that has been central to the artistic and cultural life of Liverpool for over 15 years. I look forward to joining from early 2020 to deliver an exciting, innovative programme which will interrogate some of society’s most topical issues, and continue to pioneer the production and presentation of contemporary art and technology that is both internationally recognised and locally relevant.”
Nicola Triscott, Director/CEO at FACT, said: “I’m delighted that Maitreyi Maheshwari has chosen to join FACT at this exciting time of change. Maitreyi’s extensive curatorial experience and passion for contemporary art and digital technology will help FACT to build confidently on its past achievements. Maitreyi will bring energy and artistic integrity to the task of delivering our artistic, learning and talent development programmes for people locally, as well as for our growing national and international audiences.”
Maitreyi takes up her new role in January 2020.
