Art Collection is a new community fund for artists and creatives in Liverpool.
The fund is based on the “500 model” of giving, whereby 500 people put £1 in a “pot” every week, and the members of that group then nominate individuals and decide where the money will go each week.
This is usually for someone in the local area who is in need of help in some way, be that a broken boiler that they are struggling to replace, or to help out with medical costs.
Art Collection takes this idea and applies it to the artistic and creative community in Liverpool. The fund is intended to be a no-strings grant that the artist can use in whichever way allows them to create,- whether that is for supplies, or just paying a bill for peace of mind.
Once they have 500 members giving £1 each week, they will be able to grant £500 a week to an artist living or working in Liverpool. Imagine the difference that could make to someone! It could alleviate some financial worry, pay the heating bill for a freezing studio, or for some new materials or equipment to refresh their practise.
Members can nominate artists living or working in the area, and each month, decisions will go out to a poll that is sent out via email.
