Liverpool SOUP has traditionally hosted ‘in person’ events which bring people together to learn about inspiring projects right on their doorsteps and how to support them.
Their last four events have micro-funded nine local grassroots projects with amounts ranging from £250 to £775. More importantly these events have spread the word about amazing work in the Liverpool City Region and how us locals can support them in both cash and non-cash ways.
It’s uncertain when Liverpool SOUP will be able to bring the community together for their next in-person event but with a generous donation from tickr, and the support of an expert shortlisting panel, they were able to award four £500 micro-funds to support some amazing projects in the run up to the holiday season.
All four of the projects funded demonstrate the innovative ways that people come together to support communities across the Liverpool City Region:
- Liverpool Tool Library, a library that shares tools rather than books. Giving affordable access to tools for all, the library aims to become a place for sharing knowledge and gaining valuable skills.
- Neo Community’s Virtual Santa’s Grotto, bringing an alternative Santa’s grotto experience via video by supplying 1,000 children with a gift delivered by an elf after they’ve watched a virtual, personalised Santa message.
- Walk and Talk for Refugees, a series of monthly events which help refugees and asylum seekers to develop their English as they get to know Liverpool’s best cultural attractions and each other, proving that in Liverpool you’ll never walk alone.
- The Inclusive Hub – providing non-contact boxing coaching for young people who have been inactive due to the lockdown and who have additional needs like autism and downs syndrome.
Liverpool SOUP events teach the wider community about projects which are making a positive impact to their neighbours across the city, enabling them to support them easily and this event (although online) is no exception.
So grab a brew (or a bowl of soup!), check out the project videos on their website and make a donation to the one which captures your imagination this Christmas.
