Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Academy Orchestra is for young musicians aged 11-18, working at grades 4-7 level on an orchestral instrument, from across the North West.
Each year there are two courses in Liverpool providing development and performance opportunities for young people, working with musicians from Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. By signing up to Youth Academy Orchestra you become a member of Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company, giving you access to workshops and special projects throughout the year.
What is it all about?
The four-day non-residential courses, based in Liverpool, include full (tutti) rehearsals, sectionals, workshops and a sharing at the end of the course for friends and family.
There are two courses taking place in 2018, on the following dates:
Monday 22 October – Thursday 25 October 2018 at Notre Dame Catholic College
Monday 15 April – Thursday 18 April 2019 at Bellerive FJ College
Participants will receive coaching from Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra musicians and the Youth Academy Orchestra will be conducted by Rod Skipp (In Harmony Liverpool Artistic Director) and Gethyn Jones (Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra cello).
The experience you will have as part of Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Academy Orchestra will develop your individual and group playing. You will learn new musical skills from professional orchestral players and your peers, including members of Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. This course will help you to develop greater confidence, both socially and musically, and you will make new friendships with young people from across the North West!
Each course costs £80 per person. This fee covers the tuition for one course and gives you access to Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company activities throughout 2018-19 season, including Youth Company Brass Band and Folk Ensemble, conducting and composition workshops, health and well-being workshops and master classes.
Resonate and SKY (Sefton and Knowsley) Music Hubs, can help with costs towards attending courses, including paying partial or full fees. Please contact your local Music Hub for more information.
