The Delia Derbyshire Day team are excited to be able to offer 2 new artist commissions as part of their 2021 project.
You will collaborate with an electronic music/sound based artist to create an exciting new work inspired by Delia, her archive and her work.
They have also come up with the theme of “imagination” – like Delia and her BBC Radiophonic Workshop colleagues they want to look beyond limitations. They love Delia’s colleague Dick Mills’ description: “necessity is the mother of invention.”
The work will be premiered online as part of DD Day 2021 (23 November 2021) and further performance opportunities could be offered. You need to show understanding of Delia’s work and working methods – you can research about Delia online. They want you to be bold and dedicated to your craft, like Delia was.
In collaboration, you will produce a new work (max 12 mins) inspired by Delia and theme of imagination. You will interact with the Delia Derbyshire Archive at John Ryland Library, Manchester.
Payment of £1000 includes all costs for the presentation of your new collaborative work at DD Day 2021 (online and possibly live in-person event), a blog post and an online and/or in person conversation about your commission. Further performance opportunities will be paid separately.
They are interested in supporting new work that is multi-disciplinary and cross-generational, inviting nourishing exchanges between artists. They are therefore looking to support artists of all ages (18+) and levels of experience.
