Freelance position, 2.5 days/week, 18 months fixed term
Equivalent to £25k p.a., pro rata
In March 2018 the art store at Gallery Oldham suffered a major flood. Work on the ongoing conservation and reorganisation of the stored collections has been funded through the subsequent insurance claim. They are looking for a freelancer who can support their Art Curator to carry out much of the day to day work on these collections.
The post will be based on site at Gallery Oldham.

Main responsibilities
To prepare collections for conservation, relocation and accessible storage
To support the movement of collections between the studios of a range of freelance conservators
To maintain a programme of condition checking and monitoring of the collections
To undertake documentation of items to support relocation, display, accessible storage and online access
To support the ongoing cataloguing and digitisation of collections to extend remote access to collections and assist with the development of online learning resources.
To support exhibition preparation and display.
The ideal postholder would have:
Experience of working with art gallery collections including the handling, cataloguing and digitisation of collections
Collections research experience
Experience of the practical aspects of exhibition preparation and display
A recognised qualification or degree in relevant area of work
Effective communication skills (written, verbal, ICT and interpersonal skills)
The ability to evidence high level organisational skills including the prioritisation of tasks and a methodological approach. Ability to manage workload with minimal supervision
Awareness of health and safety matters affecting both staff and the public using the Gallery, museum buildings and stores.
A clean driving license and ability to drive a hire van would also be useful.
