The Science and Industry Museum in Manchester is embarking on an exciting masterplan to redevelop buildings and galleries across the historic site. This means moving parts of the collection from Manchester to the Group’s National Collections Centre (NCC) at Wroughton in Wiltshire for safekeeping during redevelopment.
The Science Museum Group’s Collection Services underpin the care and management of our unique objects. Within this function, Collections Care are tasked with practically treating objects and providing professional expertise on minimising deterioration of our collections. They are now recruiting for a Collections Care Assistant to join this team.
In this hands-on, exciting role, you will assist in the condition reporting, care, movement, packing, display and storage of objects from the collection using best practice to meet strategic and statutory requirements. This is an ideal opportunity if you have an enthusiasm for working with a varied collection.
Joining them you utilise your skills in working well under pressure to meet tight deadlines calmly and effectively. You will also use your ability to work to a high standard of accuracy with excellent prioritising skills when undertaking collections audits and condition surveys as you assist with the packing and moving of mixed material objects.
Your existing knowledge and practical application of Health & Safety Practice will ensure the safety and care of the collection and colleagues within the wider Collections Services team.
