Cheshire East Council is seeking to appoint an artist to develop the artwork for a ‘heritage wall’, as part of the new Royal Arcade development in Crewe.
The artwork will create a sense of arrival for people visiting Crewe town centre. It should be a source of pride for the town and reflect its people and rich heritage, helping to create a sense of place.
The dimensions for the artwork are 28m wide x 8.5m high, and will be created using perforations in the steel cladding on the development. The selected artist will need to ensure the image draws from Crewe’s heritage. Public engagement is essential to this project.
The appointed artist will work with a task group comprising officers from Cheshire East Council and Crewe Town Council, as well as volunteers from Crewe’s Cultural Forum and Heritage Group. The appointed artist will be required to develop three initial designs, to be put to public consultation before the final image is selected.
The fee for this project is £5000 (ex VAT). This fee does not include manufacturing or materials for the artwork itself.
Please contact creweculturalforum@cheshireeast.gov.uk for a full brief and application details. Applications close at midday on 24 September 2021. Additional consideration will be given to artists living in or near Crewe, Cheshire East, and the surrounding area.
