‘HOP On Board’ is a new opportunity for older people, arts and health organisations to work together to develop some exciting creative activity, linked to House of Memories On The Road, a mobile immersive space that is taking culture into our communities.
They will be assigning a budget of £500 to 3 different projects and working with you to make your idea a reality, including a visit to a community setting or location of your choice in the ‘House of Memories On The Road’ mobile museum to showcase your activity!
They know from previous partnership programmes that engaging with culture and the arts can achieve a variety of outcomes, including a reduction in social isolation, improved mental stimulation, increased levels of physical activity and reducing barriers for older people using new technology.
They hope that ‘HOP On Board’ will help them demonstrate how they can improve the lives of older people by taking cultural activity into the heart of the community to those people who cannot reach us.
Applications are now open
They are delighted to announce that applications for HOP On Board are now open.
There is no set criteria for the activity you might do, but instead they’re excited to hear your ideas about what might be possible. Your idea is likely to involve use of the ‘cinema’ aspect of the mobile museum – either to show something that has been produced or as inspiration or backdrop to an activity or workshop you conduct. Here are some ideas as examples:

- Create a film with older people to share with their families
- Performance piece (music or dance) based on a theme
- Take people on a behind-the scenes tour of a location
- Put on an interactive exhibition of older people’s artwork

The HOP film
HOP has funded some fantastic projects including intergenerational creative play sessions, a cultural sharing event in L8, and a Men! Dancing! filmmaking project.
The HOP film showcases what HOP is all about and features 2017’s round of HOP projects, including tai chi sessions, ukulele lessons and a cinema, memory and wellbeing project. Here from project leads and participants about how access to arts and cultural activity helps keep older people well.
If you’d like any more information about any of the projects featured, please get in touch with the team.
