Christmas Dinners for Care Leavers was set up in 2013, with the aim of no Care Leaver (aged 16-25) being alone on Christmas Day.
The project is organised nationally, and run by local volunteers, supported by the Gold From The Stone Foundation, established by Lemn Sissay OBE, broadcaster and poet who grew up In Care. (www.goldfromthestone.org.uk)
Many of the young people are living alone and have little or no family support, so Christmas can be an isolating and distressing time. The aim is to create a day to remember and to make joyful memories of Xmas, which they may not have experienced before.
Everything – food, venue, entertainment, gifts – is of a high standard to reflect the value of the guests and they are asking you to open your heart to show these young people that the Liverpool community cares about them. They are also gifted a handmade quilt, made by a national group of volunteers – Quilts For Care Leavers – of a size big enough to wrap themselves in. A hug they can keep.
The event would not be possible without the support of local companies and individuals who provide valuable products and services to make an unforgettable Christmas.
Would you be willing to sponsor a (Venue/donation/food etc) to help with this year’s event? They would ensure your donation will be acknowledged in social media shoutouts and in their event programme.
If you wish to support them, they would be happy to discuss this and answer any questions you may have.
