The Reader and The Old Library are looking for volunteers to help lead a Shared Reading group.
The Reader are a national charity that wants to bring about a Reading Revolution so that everyone can experience and enjoy great literature, which we believe is a tool for helping humans survive and live well. We support hundreds of Shared Reading groups across the UK and provide partners and volunteers with training, resources and support.
The Reader and The Old Library are looking for volunteers to help lead a Shared Reading group on a Wednesday 2-3pm.
If you love great literature and people- do get in touch to hear more about the opportunities available and explore our Read to Lead training offer.
How does Shared Reading work?
A group of people, one of them a trained Reader Leader, reads a great novel, short story or poem aloud. We stop and talk about what we have read. There is no need for group members to read aloud or speak – it’s fine to just listen. The idea is to create a space where people feel at ease.
Why volunteer?
You can make a difference in your local community, meet new people and learn new skills. All volunteers take part in a transformational Shared Reading training programme and can access an amazing range of literature resources.
As well as supporting Shared Reading in The Old Library, you’ll become a valuable member of The Reader and will be one of the first to hear about our exciting and frequent events happening online and in person.
