Salford Museums and Art Galleries are excited to be embarking on an Arts Council England funded project, Unlocking the Collections, which will pilot digital technology to provide a layer of interpretation for two traditionally underserved communities, that of the deaf/Deaf BSL using community and those who are blind/living with sight loss.
The purpose of the post is to support the Learning and Engagement manager by coordinating the Unlocking the Collections Project.
This role is two days a week for a fixed term of 6 months (or a 3-month term if we appoint an individual whose skills align with one of the communities but not the other.) The project that this role supports will work with two focus groups (one from Henshaw’s Society for the Blind, the other from Manchester Deaf Centre) in selecting which artworks/spaces on which they would like more interpretation.
It also involves gathering information for film and sound files and assisting the audio describer/Deaf Presenter/interpreter in their creation of BSL films and Audio Descriptive sound files. The post holder/s will also be uploading content and inviting the focus groups back to try out the interpretation in our buildings and collate evaluation.
