Eden Arts is offering short artist residencies at our base, an old fire station in Penrith, Cumbria. We are keen to develop an exchange between the company and artists who wish to test, explore, develop or research their ideas/practice in a creative space amongst creative people.
We take a very wide view of what art and art practice is….. visual, writer, digital, performer, juggler, you might even just be thinking, you may be an environmentalist, you may just wish to hang out with us…. we are open to all suggestions and will consider them by application. We’ve had filmmakers, choreographers, archeologists, photographers and many others join us in the past.
Penrith is ideally placed to explore the Lake District, the Eden Valley, the border city of Carlisle, the ‘energy coast’ of West Cumbria, themes of agriculture, land use, rurality, food production, the north, borders, boundaries, climate change, socially engaged practice, diversity, digital creative content, health and wellbeing, place and the impact culture and art has on it….
These are just examples of things we are interested in however, people are free to work on anything and use the spaces in any way they wish. There are no expectations that any particular work will be produced. The residency is there to further artists in their ongoing practice and development.
Eden Arts will freely give the space(s) and use of our kit: lighting kit, PA, projectors, staging; advice, support and engagement from all of our team; and free run of the building (except the bits that are in use for other purposes!)
This is an unpaid residency. Eden Arts can offer £20 per diems and travel to and from Penrith. Accommodation may be provided if required.
