Final year students from Liverpool Theatre School will take to the stage at The Hope Street Theatre for a special performance of ‘You Stupid Darkness!’ by acclaimed playwright Sam Steiner. The production runs for two nights (17-18 November), offering audiences a chance to see the next generation of talent perform one of the most compelling contemporary plays of recent years.
Featuring a cast of rising stars, the play follows four volunteers working at a call centre for people in crisis as they struggle to maintain optimism in the face of an increasingly bleak outside world. Balancing humour and poignancy, ‘You Stupid Darkness!’ is a moving exploration of hope, connection and humanity in difficult times.
“This production is a wonderful opportunity for our students to bring such a relevant and heartfelt play to life,” said Maxine Ellis, Principal of Liverpool Theatre School. “Audiences can expect a powerful and moving evening of theatre, as the play sensitively explores issues such as mental health, climate anxiety, isolation and grief. Our students have been working incredibly hard to prepare for the performance and I’m confident their passion and professionalism will shine through.”
Nathan Power, Ava O’Brien, Lorelei Beckett and Imogen Anderson are among the talented final year students starring in the play as part of their elite musical theatre training at Liverpool Theatre School. The centre of excellence has launched the careers of many professional performers, with graduates going on to star in hit shows such as Mamma Mia!, Frozen, SIX, Starlight Express, Blood Brothers and Wicked.
Liverpool Theatre School – whose patrons include dance legend Wayne Sleep OBE and musical theatre star Anita Dobson – offers a range of professional training programmes designed to equip students with the skills needed to succeed in the performing arts industry. These include diploma courses in dance and musical theatre, as well as BTEC training in dance, musical theatre and performing arts.
