Artist, Confidence through Creativity, closes 9 Aug

Collective Encounters is an arts organisation specialising in using theatre as a tool for social change. The company delivers participatory theatre programmes with communities affected by poverty and inequality across the Liverpool City Region and nationally; hosts an online Centre for Excellence in Participatory Theatre and uses arts-based research methodologies to pursue social justice and test models of co-production.

Confidence through Creativity

Following a successful Arts Council Project Grant Collective Encounters is seeking a passionate, socially-engaged participatory theatre maker and facilitator to co-deliver Confidence through Creativity, an online creative course for women.

Confidence through Creativity builds on a course Collective Encounters has delivered online with women in Merseyside over the last year. This new project seeks to take the course to a national audience, recruiting women from across the country to take part. The course is designed for women who are accessing support services or feel they need a confidence boost due to being out of work, education or training – or for any other reason.

They hope women engaging with this project will experience the personal and social benefits of arts participation as well as being inspired to continue to be creative. The main delivery of the project will be autumn-winter 2021-2022 and activities will take place online via Zoom and other digital platforms.

Artist Role

You will support the Lead Artist on all aspects of delivery as well as helping to devise the programme and support participants. We expect the Artist to be an early career artist with no more than 2 years professional experience working in this field.

The Artist will:

  • Co-deliver an online theatre and creative arts programme for women over 18.
  • Work with referral organisations and voluntary sector partners to offer wraparound and pastoral support for participants.
  • Work with the external evaluator to identify next steps and make recommendations for future projects and programmes of work.

The successful applicant will be an early-career participatory theatre maker with no more than 2 years professional experience in this field. They will have some experience of working with vulnerable adults, and an understanding of the community/participatory theatre sector.

A bonus would be experience of working with women in a creative context. Due to the nature of the project this opportunity is only open to female candidates. We will accept applications from candidates based anywhere in the UK and you must be available to work on Tuesdays.

Collective Encounters recognises its workforce, and the workforce of the whole of the cultural sector, should be more diverse, and we encourage applications from candidates who identify as Black, those of colour and/or disabled
