Actor, writer and Arts Emergency supporter Julie Hesmondhalgh is backing Arts Emergency’s appeal to support the next generation of creatives.
Growing up in a working-class family, Julie describes herself as “state privileged” — having access to high-quality arts education, a well-funded college course and support that helped her pursue a career in theatre. Those opportunities shaped her future, but she says many young people today are being denied the same chance to discover their creativity and build careers in the arts.
With arts subjects disappearing from many state schools and barriers to entering the creative industries growing, Arts Emergency is working to provide practical support, mentoring and opportunities for young people who want to work in the arts.
As Liverpool continues to thrive as a city of creativity and culture, supporting the next generation of artists, performers, writers and makers is more important than ever.
