We are looking for 15 young LGBTQIA+ creatives aged 14-25 to work with a £2,500 budget to plan, host and market a legacy event for your community.
A ‘legacy event’ is a one-off event that builds space for community to thrive, as well as opening up opportunities of change for marginalised people to continue long after the event has finished. Think of activism meeting party planning!
You will have access to a pot of £100 to be distributed between your team for your creative outputs around the event AND have the opportunity to be a paid Peer Evaluator of your project.
Whatever event you have in mind to promote community and inclusion within the arts, as well as supporting LGBTQIA+ mental health, we want to have you on board! If you have a particular interest in literature and publishing, this cohort of Safe Spaces is for you!
During this 12 week project, from September until November, you will partake in workshops where you will be up-skilled in hosting events, budgeting, commission work and more! Our weekly planning sessions will also be a space to socialise with like minded creatives.
All sessions are completely inclusive and are open to young people of all skillsets and levels – no prior experience necessary! Sessions can be held online or in-person depending on what you fancy. Sessions will be held at Make CIC, 2 Cleveland Street, CH41 6ND, Hamilton Square. Sessions will be held every Friday for 2 hours.

There are a real lack of safe spaces in Liverpool, especially with the rise of homophobic and transphobic hate crime we have seen over the past year. Our ‘Safe Spaces Reclaiming Community Spaces Project’ is a chance to create spaces where LGBTQIA* and marginalised people can feel safe, seen and find creative community thanks to YOU!
