Take advantage of the longer and lighter days and treat yourself to a dot-art creative course or art workshop in an inspiring location in Liverpool’s city centre. The fun, friendly evening and weekend courses are open to everyone.
At the Bluecoat from May, they have the return of their popular 10 week evening courses;
These courses will be in Life Drawing and Beginners Painting (Acrylics). Joining these is a 10 week Drawing Techniques course, which is designed to develop observational and expressive drawing techniques and skills. This course is suitable for beginners or those wishing to explore aspects of their own practise.
dot-art also have 3 day courses in Abstract Painting, taking place on 3 consecutive Sundays from June, when you can delve into the imaginative world of abstract painting, learning about layering, materials, composition and texture, Watercolour, the most popular medium for people who take up art, and Essential Art History.
This new course, starting in May, will allow you to delve into the world of art history with art historian Sara Riccardi and is suitable for art lovers and appreciators wishing to learn and explore the essential chronology of art history. These are joined by a single Sunday workshop in Creative Textile Art, in which you will learn a variety of skills such as hand painting and printing, batik (wax resist), Japanese shibori (resist dye) and hand stitch.
The new venue for this season is Hope Street institution, at the Everyman. On Wednesdays evenings they will be holding their popular course in Digital Photography for Beginners, for those who would like to move from being a keen beginner to a competent intermediate photographer, as well as a new one day introductory workshop in Lino Cut on Saturday 11th May and a new 3 day course, Introduction to Pastels, taking place in Saturdays in May. In these sessions you will work with professional artist Mia Cathcart to learn the fundamentals of using soft pastels. Finally, there’s the return of the 3 day Drawing for Everyone course, taking place on Saturdays in June.
At Faith Bebbington’s Studio, they have a Wood Carving for beginners course, led by Faith herself across 3 consecutive Sundays in June. This is a hands-on course with an emphasis on the creative design process and learning through practising the process of carving. The tuition is tailored to support and guide each individual through their own wood carving project in the informal atmosphere of the artist’s studio.
They are also returning to the Friends of Williamson Tunnels on Sundays 16th June for Sketching in the Tunnels, a unique opportunity for both beginners and experienced artists to spend a Sunday morning drawing and learning new skills in this fascinating location.
Finally, the dot-art Club for creative children takes place at the fantastic Baltic Creative on Jamaica Street. They run afternoon sessions for 10-13 year olds, in two six week blocks, starting 28th April and 16th June. Every week young artists will be encouraged to develop their drawing skills and build a lifelong love of art under the expert guidance of artist Sarah Jane Richards.
