The Curator of Contemporary Histories plays a crucial role in the International Slavery Museum’s curatorial team. They will directly report to the Lead Curator of Transatlantic Slavery.
They will play an important role in coordinating collections management across the team and liaising across departments to ensure we are maintaining and developing high standards of collections management, particularly as part of the project decant.
The role is also of strategic significance in exploring the ways racial slavery continues to shape the world we live in, locally nationally and international – from racism, the climate crisis, economic inequalities, prison industrial system and broader contemporary exploitation. The postholder will further shape and 5 refine a strategic area of focus for their year in post, which will focus on one of these themes. Alongside, and connected to this, the postholder will work with designers, colleagues and partners to continue the collaborative development of display concepts as part of the Waterfront Transformation Project.
