The purpose of the Curatorial Fellow role at ISM is to actively contribute to the ISM Curatorial Team and the ISM redevelopment.
Reporting directly to the Head of the International Slavery Museum and working closely with the Lead Curator of the International Slavery Museum, you will develop your own expertise in innovative methods of interpretation and lead on the development and implantation of interpretation. You will share that expertise with colleagues and develop new curatorial expertise amongst people who might otherwise struggle to access curatorial careers. You will also regularly coordinate with design contractors to help shape the content, look and feel of the redesigned museum.
The Curatorial Fellow will be actively involved in community-engagement activities, and lead on involving a range of people in the interpretation of displays at ISM. You will represent ISM at public events and respond to relevant requests for information from academics, media organisations and members of the public. You will use collections management software and play a hands-on role in acquisition and loan procedures.
Throughout all aspects of work, the Curatorial Fellow should demonstrate knowledge of, and respect for, sensitivities associated with the history and legacies of racial slavery. You will be expected to work in a reflective manner and show care for collections and the people you work and interact with.
