About The Farmer’s Arms
Their relaunch of this historic inn on the edge of the Lake District began in 2021. We re-imagined the neglected site as ‘an inn for the 21st century’, and a lock-down fundraising campaign to save the pub from dereliction attracted community investors and donors from around the world to join the purchase. Find out more on their website.
About the Role
Grizedale Arts believes in art and artists, and that creativity can make every part of everyday life better. Most of our staff are themselves artists, and after a demanding first year learning our way around ‘front line’ hospitality at the pub, they want to include more art and artists in the project.
Many artists work or have worked in hospitality, and usually your creativity is expected to be left at the door – but they don’t think it has to be that way. This opportunity has grown from listening to those who’ve been selected for our recent highly successful volunteer residencies and from their ongoing rethinking of the standard artist residency format on which Grizedale Arts’ reputation was based in its earlier years.
This is a pilot for further initiatives based at the Inn, and the feedback of the successful applicants will be instrumental in informing their future direction.
