Musician / Composer with Caribbean heritage – Curiosity Productions, closes 18 Mar

Stefanie Reynolds is developing a new theatre adaptation of Jamaican fairy tales for young audiences, Sol vs Mancrow (working title). She’s looking for a musician/composer of Jamaican heritage to join her Research & Development period at Z Arts in Manchester, on Thursday 18th April 2024.

Job Description

Stefanie is a mixed-race, working class, neurodivergent, queer Mancunian playwright. She is open-minded about musical styles, but the successful applicant will need to take some inspiration from the music of Jamaica, whether through ska elements, traditional songs, or something else. This new play explores the experiences of working class children with shared Manchester / Jamaican heritage, and gender roles for children of the Jamaican diaspora. The R&D will invite 2 performers, a puppeteer and a director to explore Stef’s ideas. There is potential for those who work on the R&D to become part of the creative team as the project develops (although this is not guaranteed).

This R&D is supported by Curiosity Productions, Cloud Cuckoo Land Theatre and Z Arts.

If you have any access needs or need this information in a different format, please email access@curiosityproductions.co.uk or whatsapp/text us on 07967 187822.

FEE

£150 inclusive fee.

TIMEFRAME

The musician will be joining the team for 1 day of the R&D:

Thursday 18th April, 11.00am – 5.30pm

at Z-Arts, 335 Stretford Road, Hulme, M15 5ZA

If you’d like to apply, please send the following to hello@curiosityproductions.co.uk:

* A brief paragraph / biog about you as a musician, mentioning any theatre experience (this can be typed, written or an audio or video file, or just a link to online biog)

* A link to your website or music page (eg. band camp) if you have one

* 1 to 3 examples of your original music (either as links or attached files: we can only listen to up to 10 minutes per person, so please tell us exactly what you want us to listen to, eg. timecodes)

Deadline to apply: 6pm on Monday 18th March
