Are you:
- Over 25 and based in Merseyside?
- Interested in a career in community theatre?
- Not able to get on a formal drama or arts course?
Join the Radical Makers Participatory Theatre Training programme.
Radical Makers is a year-long free part time emerging artist training course starting at the end of September.
The course involves a blend of learning in your own time, in person and online, to suit each individual participant and requires a commitment of around 8 hours per week. Full support to get online is included in the course, including the necessary technology and internet access for those who don’t already have it. All students receive one to one mentoring and career guidance, and work towards nationally recognised qualifications.
The course is COVID secure, and they continually monitor the pandemic to make sure none of their participants are put at risk.
There is no formal application process, but the course is designed for people who:
- Have been unable to access arts education, or
- Have experienced barriers to progressing in a career in the arts, or
- May not work in the arts but are interested in using participatory theatre in another context, such as homelessness, with looked after children, with people in recovery, with survivors of abuse or trauma.
When you contact them, they may ask you to tell them a little about
- Your life experiences to date
- Your creative experience to date
- What communities you might like to work with
As people of colour are very under-represented in participatory theatre making, they are particularly interested in hearing from you and making this group majority from culturally diverse backgrounds to help radicalise and see real change in our sector. They will give places to all applicants who fit the criteria and those who want to see real change.
Previous participants have gone on to form their own theatre companies, be activists in their own communities, make films, find work, become freelance artists, and have their writing performed.
