Sound City has announced a bespoke bursary programme supporting 10 Black, Asian and diverse artists and aspiring industry aged 18-25 to make an impact on the music industry.
Over the course of 6 months, young creatives on the Rip It Up programme will immerse themselves in informative sessions including social media, getting gigs, recording & production, publishing, radio and press, strategy and campaign management, funding and how to build an effective team. The 10 selected applicants will receive extensive support from the very beginning of the programme including training and mentoring. Aspiring industry will do a paid placement within a creative business to kickstart their experience. Artists will receive funding to go into the studio to record a single and promote the release.
The Rip It Up programme will be presented by world renowned artists, industry figureheads and experts all looking to inspire the next generation of music industry talent. With spotlight speaker sessions, mentorship and insightful debates.
Rip It Up excitingly welcomes project leader and industry innovator Yaw Owusu, Executive Manager of The Playmaker Group, including speaker sessions from Seye Adelekan, self made artist who has worked with the likes of Liam Gallagher, Paloma Faith and now Gorillaz, breakthrough rock favourites Nova Twins, Vanessa Bakewell – Global Client Partner at Facebook, Achal Dhillon – Managing Director of Killing Moon (home to Marsicans and Bad Nerves), Liam James Ward of Be-Hookd Digital (The Wombats, The Script) and there’s many more to be announced!
Rip It Up promises to be one of the first programmes directly helping drive that call for greater opportunities and platforms for young Black, Asian and diverse talent to make that step into an industry crying out for greater diversity and inclusion.
Applications are now open and close 15th February 2021.
