Liverpool Town Hall is a stunning grade 1 listed building in the heart of the City, joining St. George’s Hall and Croxteth County Park to form ‘Liverpool City Halls’.
You will be the Manager of their Town Hall, strategically and tactically directing all activities that take place, making this venue a shining example of commercial and operational excellence, underpinning the City Plan.
You will have overall accountability for the Town Hall operational delivery, customer experience and commercial performance, ensuring the operation is aligned to a new centralised approach to delivery. You will ensure that the civic programme and commercial operations are effectively aligned.
You will understand the importance of positive team culture and how to drive and influence this; you’ll be friendly and ready to really get stuck in, without being afraid to drive change by leading and inspiring the team to deliver exceptional service and commercial results, across a broad portfolio of events and activities.

- Processes are at the core of operations; you will weed out work-intensive processes and unnecessary admin so that operational performance is prioritised.
The needs of this busy venue are fluid; this is not a 9am-5pm / Monday to Friday role. You agree to work flexibly over a 7 day week when required, which may include unsociable hours, weekends and bank holidays.
Whilst your primary place of work will be the Town Hall, you will work flexibly across St. Georges Hall, Croxteth Country Park and Culture Liverpool to support the delivery of scheduled activity when required.
You will take personal pride and maintain a high standard of professional appearance whilst on duty. This role is not Agile and you will be required to be predominantly based in the work place.
Role and Responsibilities
MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
You will lead and inspire the civic and venue operations team to deliver exceptional service and commercial results across a broad portfolio of events and activities in our City owned Town Hall.
You will also ensure the operations are aligned with our other city Halls to ensure a centralised and standardised approach to delivery.

Management
- You will have overall accountability for Town Hall operational delivery, sales, marketing, customer experience and commercial performance.
- You will be a strong team manager, with the ability to lead, manage and motivate a team to undertake all activity to standards that always exceed expectation.
- You will work closely with the Head of Venue Operations, the Sales and Venue Operations team to ensure the smooth transition of Sales to Operations for all commercial activity and events within Town Hall
- You will set clear objectives, timelines, goals and targets for the Town Hall team managing all HR & personnel activity
- You will provide senior management reports, committee reports, cabinet reports etc. relating to Town Hall
- You will develop & maintain excellent working relationships with senior stakeholders
- You will be the point of contact for all written and verbal enquiries relating to Town Hall, whether they are commercial, operational or political
Venue
- You will ensure robust Standard Operating Procedures cross all areas
- You will support and review the delivery of all venue activity
- You will ensure both ‘front of house’ and ‘back of house’, are immaculate at all times
- You will work in conjunction with the Facilities Manager to ensure that any identified maintenance issues are effectively carried out with specific regard to the terms & conditions of the building’s Listed status.
- You will provide operational support to City Halls and the wider Culture Liverpool team for the delivery of any activity, as and when business needs require
Commercial / Financial
- You will contribute to the development of an annual programme of commercial activity identifying new products and innovative income streams that will grow the bottom line
- You will ensure that Town Hall operates within the allocated and identified budgets
- You will review and consider the viability of commercial activity
- You will efficiently deploy personnel according to the events taking place
Customer Service
- You will have a personal drive, passion and determination for continuous improvement of all activity taking place within the Hall
- You will advise Head of Venue Operations of changes or innovations that will improve operations within the Town Hall and across all City Hall Venues
Health & Safety
- You will ensure a robust process is in place to sign off on all activity taking place within a venue environment and ensure all Emergency Plans and Business Continuity Plans are robust and staff are appropriately trained to respond.
- You will plan, implement and record all staff training, security, safety and evacuation drills and exercises.
- You will ensure compliance with all Health & Safety requirements applicable to the workplace and commercial activity taking place
- You will be a designated First Aid responder whilst on duty.
Skills and Experience
Qualifications and Training
- Professional qualification or extensive experience in a relevant field such as Venue / Operations / hospitality / project management*
- H&S qualified / experienced within an operational or venue environment *
- Full clean Driving Licence
- SIA accreditation will form part of the role once in post
Experience
- You will have extensive experience as an Operational Manager from within a venue or hospitality background.*
- You will have proven management experience of leading a team, with a confident, engaging and emotionally intelligent approach.*
- You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience of engaging at a senior level with internal and external stake-holders.*
- Experience of creating, implementing and monitoring processes that ensure the effective management of commercial, financial, personnel and building operations.*
- Experience of developing Standard Operating Procedures for internal and external service providers to adhere to
Skills/Abilities
- Ability to lead and manage a team to a very high standard *
- The ability to pioneer new approaches to service delivery, finding creative solutions to complex problems*
- Financially aware and commercially astute, ensuring best value is delivered by management and control of budgets and production of financial management reports.*
- The ability to review Event Management Plans and participate in any events that Town Hall is leading on, as required.
