The Whitaker Museum and Art Gallery have built strong relationships with all of their local communities and have grown the volunteer team to an impressive number of 118.
Strong foundations are already in place, including a good database that is accessed by all volunteers, who are used to engaging with it and booking on for shifts. They have a number of roles including Front of House, Shop, Gallery Invigilation, Collections Support, Activities and Maintenance.
They have attracted diverse range of volunteers from the local community, including retired people, those looking for work experience, young people from age 14, some of which are volunteering towards a Duke of Edinburgh award. They have refugees and asylum seekers who they support in a variety of ways and ensure they are welcomed and able to make new friends and utilise their many skills. They also have regular students and school pupils who join us annually for work experience.
