Volunteers (Ethnically diverse) – Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) Reciprocal Mentoring Scheme, opens 20 Dec ’24

Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is seeking 40 volunteers from the Liverpool City Region’s Black, Asian, and Minority communities to pair with 40 senior leaders from organisations across Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, and Wirral.

Following its partnership work with Liverpool Charity and Voluntary Services (LCVS) and in response to the findings of the 2024 LCVS report “Addressing the Disparity in Accessibility to Funds and Support for Black-led Non-profits” LJMU are also keen for leaders from funders and commissioning organisations to participate in this programme, as well as representatives from organisations from minoritised communities, in order to help strengthen the dialogue between funders and Black, Asian, and Minority communities.

Over a 12-month period, as a volunteer you will engage in a reciprocal mentoring arrangement with organisational leaders, offering insight into the lived experiences of ethnically diverse individuals within the city region and their workplaces.

Delivered in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University and the Liverpool City Region Race Equality Hub, this programme aims to build understanding and drive meaningful change.

Scheme Objectives:

  • Help senior leaders understand challenges related to race equality.
  • Equip leaders with tools to address these challenges in their organisations.
  • Foster a sense of belonging and inclusion for ethnically diverse staff.

Feedback from past programmes highlights the programme has the potential for real impact, particularly in recruitment, progression, and representation of ethnically diverse individuals within organisations.

All participants will receive training.  All workshops will take place in Liverpool, with venues communicated upon sign-up.

Benefits for Ethnically Diverse Volunteers:

  • You will build a partnership with a senior leader to inspire cultural change.
  • Contribute to meaningful conversations and projects driving inclusion and diversity.
  • Gain insights into leadership dynamics and power structures at conscious and unconscious levels.
  • Access career advice, networking opportunities, and enhance your leadership skills and accelerate career aspirations.

Organisational Benefits:

  • Improve recruitment and retention of diverse talent.
  • Break barriers to progression into senior leadership roles.
  • Foster a more inclusive and representative workforce.

Key Features of the Scheme:

  • One-to-one Mentorship: A year-long, enriching exchange of insights and experiences.
  • Monthly Meetings: Flexible schedules with a minimum of one meeting per month.
  • Workshops: Seven engaging sessions to support your learning and growth.
  • Collaborative Goals: Work together to create meaningful, long-term change for individuals and organisations.
  • Evaluation and Growth: Learning from the scheme will be used to improve staff experiences across organisations.

This programme is a unique opportunity to bridge communities, share knowledge, and lasting, impactful change.

Complete the application form now to be selected to be one of the 40 community volunteers in the region to take part in the reciprocal mentoring scheme.

RAWD Survey: Exploring Inclusive Arts Governance with RAWD’s community researchers, opens 19 Dec ’24

Recently at RAWD they became a charity, and in their own process of building a board, began researching boards and governance in the arts, finding that people with disabilities are largely underrepresented in decision-making roles within Arts and Culture organisations.

They want to understand this further on a local level. Help RAWD develop solutions for boards to be more inclusive and accessible in the Liverpool City Region.

Below you’ll find a survey about your organisations own experiences, practices and perspectives on boards. Filling it out would be invaluable to their research and mission, and should only take 20 minutes of your time.

Fill out their survey here

If your organisation’s board does not have any disabled members you can still support with significant information that helps collate data and understand the challenges faced. You can still play a crucial part in developing solutions for the future. Information you provide will be presented anonymously, on behalf of RAWD in a digital campaign.

Should you be unable to fill this out digitally, but are interested in telling them about your own experiences, they would be happy to have a call or meet in person in 2025.
