Spatial Development Strategy consultation survey, closes 16 Feb

How we use and develop land affects many aspects of our lives. It is therefore important that the people, communities and businesses of the city region have chance to influence and shape this. Have your say on a wide range of draft policies in this new survey.

The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is preparing a Spatial Development Strategy (SDS). This will set out a framework for the future development and use of land in the city region looking ahead to 2040. This includes planning for homes, the economy and jobs, infrastructure and natural environment.

‘Towards a Spatial Development Strategy for the Liverpool City Region’ is a document presenting the next stage of the SDS’s development. It seeks to build on both feedback received from earlier stages of engagement, and the evidence base prepared to date.

We need your input in getting this Strategy right. This engagement is an opportunity for you to have your say on a wide range of draft policies making up the Spatial Development Strategy. We’ll then use this feedback to help refine and improve these policies as we prepare a final version of the Strategy.

Artists Sought for Liverpool Sculpture Prize, closes 8 Apr

Liverpool Sculpture Prize 2024

Artists are being invited to apply for a new Liverpool Sculpture Prize, which would see their work displayed for twelve months with a prize fee of £2500.

Liverpool Sculpture Prize, created and managed by Liverpool BID Company and Liverpool Parish Church, is open to any sculptor working and living in the UK. The call for entries opens today, Thursday 8 February, and is open until 8 April 2024. A judging panel, featuring people from within the arts, business and creative communities, will decide the winning entry, which will be unveiled to the public in June 2024.

The work will be displayed at Liverpool Parish Church, either on the plinth on Chapel Street, or in the church gardens overlooking Liverpool’s waterfront. The plinth was the site of Brian Burgess’s ‘Christ on a Donkey’ and The Liverpool Plinth from 2018 – 2023. In the gardens at Liverpool Parish Church, various works have also been installed including Ranti Bam as part of Liverpool Biennial.

Bill Addy, CEO of Liverpool BID Company says,

“We have a long running commitment to public art and it is a vital ingredient in everyday life in Liverpool. We wanted to develop a sustainable prize that would be open to artists across the country and we are excited to see the submissions we receive. We are looking for artwork that is thought provoking, animating and that will catch the eye of those who walk past. This is a high profile location with tourists, office workers, residents and visitors on its doorstep”.

Rector of Liverpool Revd Canon Dr Crispin Pailing is from Liverpool Parish Church,

“Our ambition with the Liverpool Sculpture Prize is that it attracts artists both young and old to submit their work. We know that the opportunities for exhibition for artists, particularly sculptors, are increasingly few and far between, especially in the public realm. This prize is designed to provide real support and ambition to promote artists who need it”.

Applications are open now until 8 April – see here for details

Liverpool City Region Volunteering Hub website launched

The VS6 Partnership are pleased to announce the launch of the Liverpool City Region Volunteering Hub website, the central place for all volunteering needs across the city region.

The hub revolutionises volunteering by supporting the co-ordination and management of volunteering across all six Liverpool City Region (LCR) boroughs into one platform providing wider promotion of opportunities and a shared database of registered volunteers looking to give their time to our LCR communities.

Organisations can register on the hub’s website to promote their volunteering opportunities for free and access a pool of volunteers across LCR. All opportunities are listed on the hub website, and due to the interoperability of the hub with volunteer centres across LCR boroughs, opportunities will also be promoted at a local level. The hub also supports the management of volunteers including accepting volunteers, logging volunteer hours, GDPR compliance and producing data reports on volunteering activities.

The hub was developed in partnership with TeamKinetic, who designed the bespoke management software, and is funded by Mayor Steve Rotheram and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, to build upon the legacy of generosity and volunteering from the pandemic.

Originally, the idea of the hub was developed following TeamKinetic’s work with Halton & St Helens VCA in developing a digital volunteer management platform which was enhanced during the pandemic in response to the rising demand for both volunteers needed and residents wanting to get involved in volunteering. Following the success of this platform and further funding from the Combined Authority, each borough in the city region now has their own digital volunteer platform run by their local CVS, which now all feed into our newly launched Liverpool City Region Volunteering Hub.

To access the Liverpool City Region Volunteering Hub to register your organisations’ opportunities or to sign up to get involved in volunteering, please click here.

Additionally, if you are an organisation wanting to promote your volunteering opportunities and want to know more, Volunteer Centre Sefton are hosting some training on how to use the TeamKinetic system throughout February and March:

Tuesday 13 February 2024 from 10 AM 12 PM on Zoom

Thursday 7 March 2024 from 1 – 3 PM on Zoom.
