Youth Board Recruitment – Comics Youth CIC, closes 30 Sept

Are you 14-25 years old based in Liverpool/surrounding areas? Do you want to gain incredible experience on being in the decision-making seat for an award-winning CIC?

Comics Youth have just opened applications for young people across the Liverpool City Region to apply for their YOUTH BOARD at Comics Youth CIC. This means that young people would have the opportunity to make big decisions about how they work ethically, interestingly, and fairly within their company. Deciding on things from policy, pay, the type of programs they run, the ethics they support, how they run their young person led publishing house and LOADS more!

Its an excellent asset for young people’s CV and each young person will receive guidance and mentoring from our Board throughout the whole process, showing you the inner workings of the third sector, community work, decision making and leadership.

Artist – Postcards from County/Storytelling Festival

Culture Liverpool are looking to commission an artist to create a ‘postcards from County’ postcard series.

As well as a design for a poster, flyer and online promotion of a Storytelling festival which will be occurring at Spellow Library from October – December. This is to celebrate the reopening of Spellow Library, which has been closed for refurbishment over lockdown.

The heart of the festival will be Spellow Hub, which will have recently reopened after refurbishment. On its reopening Spellow Hub will not only function as a library but as a fully accessible community hub with new facilities including:-

  • Refurbished adult and children’s library
  • Large multi-functional space
  • Space for creative workshops
  • Learning and development programmes (Adult Learning Service)
  • Access to Council services (One Stop Shop provision)
  • Improved computer facilities
  • Space for community events.

It is important that these postcards reflect the soul and sense of place of the area.

The design can be photographic, illustration, creative writing or whichever other medium the artist feels will represent County Road and its people the best.

A fee of £1000 will be paid to the artist

There is a quick turnaround for the designs. The artist will deliver the first version of the designs by Monday 3rd October for final versions on Monday 10th October

Trustees -TLC-St. Luke’s, closes 14 Oct

TLC-St Luke’s is a charity that has been delivering Arts and Mental Health Drop-In Projects for almost 30 years in the central Manchester area. Their mission is to provide activities and resources for individuals who experience mental and emotional distress, including psychiatric illness.

They are looking for new trustees to bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to our organisation, steering us as we negotiate a period of change, build future sustainability, and develop our vision for the future.

If you want to put your skills to good use whilst doing worthwhile and necessary voluntary work for a charity, then we’d love to welcome you to our board. Whether you are a specialist or a generalist, if you are committed to helping TLC-St. Luke’s realise its potential, they’d welcome your application.

They are particularly interested in hearing from people who have experience in charities, accountancy, the law, HR, fundraising, healthcare/social prescribing, property, and the arts. Successful candidates will believe passionately in the benefits of community drop-ins and the arts for health and wellbeing.

This is a voluntary role. They ask for the following commitment:

• A commitment to attending at least 4 trustee meetings per year, the AGM (usually held in November) and extra meetings as required.

• A willingness to volunteer your time for us, spend time at our drop-ins to get to know us, and to get involved in events

• A commitment of at least one year

• Consultation time with staff on specific matters

Mentors – Arts Emergency

Arts Emergency are looking for mentors who are based in or near London, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Brighton.

Mentoring has the power to change lives. Mentor pairs meet for an hour every month to decide on goals for the year and then work towards achieving them. Mentees gain confidence and connections that help them to plan their next steps and succeed on their chosen path.

Their mentor volunteers are reliable, passionate and warm. Most mentors have studied an arts or humanities subject at university or have worked in the creative industries for over four years. They match mentor pairs based on their shared interests and geographical location.

In order to become an Arts Emergency mentor, you need to complete their mentor registration form and attend an online mentor training session.

Once you complete the form, you will be sent the link to sign up for mentor training. Please use the same email when you fill in your registration and book your training.

Volunteers in Knowsley – A Thousand Feet Deep by Periplum, closes 16 Sept

Knowsley has confirmed that in October (7, 8 and 9) it will host an immersive outdoor event in Stadt Moers Park. ‘A Thousand Feet Deep’ – by Periplum – will explore the history and spirit of the borough and its people, in a way that visitors will not have imagined.

The 50-minute performance, which will take place on three consecutive evenings, will take visitors on an atmospheric journey exploring Knowsley’s myths and folklore.

YOU could be part of this spectacle…..

Organisers are looking for 22 local people to get more involved and become part of the performance.

You don’t need to be an actor, singer or dancer but just a Knowsley resident with a desire to be part of this amazing experience.

You will work with a team of expert practitioners, who will give you on-site training and workshops in outdoor performance. During the show you will accompany the action, moving through the audience as part of a team, with visual props, fire torches and other pyrotechnic effects.

Anyone interested in volunteering to take part in A Thousand Feet Deep should be aware of the following:

  • In addition to participating in the three performances, you will also be required to attend x2 rehearsal evenings at Stadt Moers Park. You must be available to attend ALL of these sessions.

5.30pm to 10pm – Thursday 6 October – dress rehearsal

6pm to 10pm – Friday 7 October – Performance

6pm to 10pm – Saturday 8 October – Performance

Please be advised that the actual performances will all take place outdoors in the dark and in all weathers.

This is a volunteering opportunity and there will be no payment made to those who participate.

Due to the nature of the performance, all volunteers need to be over 18 years old.

You will be required to potentially carry fire and pyrotechnic effects as part of the role. You will be given full safety training by an expert.

Periplum will provide a costume (Jacket and hat) to wear, but you will need to bring your own clothing to wear underneath – trousers, top and walking shoes (preferably all black). Bring waterproofs for rehearsals (if needed). If you don’t have appropriate black clothing please let us know and we will provide something.

Disabled, Deaf and/or Neurodivergent Workshop Facilitator – Royal Northern College of Music, closes 10 Oct

Royal Northern College of Music are looking for 2 workshop facilitators on 3 February 2023 to conduct two 1-hour workshops on music technology and disability/accessibility as part of the Lucy Hale Festival.

The fee for the workshop is £200, plus £50 contribution for expenses.

Expression of interest for Working Class Creative Database X Convenience Gallery, closes 14 Sept

Convenience Gallery is currently working with Working Class Creatives Database for their 2023 programme. They are working alongside the WCCD team to shape funding, selection, curation, support and locations for the Merseyside section of a UK wide programme of events and exhibitions focused on supporting and championing working class creatives.

‘For our (WCCD) 2023 Programme, The Working-Class Creatives Database are hosting a series of Exhibitions, Residencies, Workshops and Talks in Low Engagement areas across the UK including: Hull, Woolwich, Wakefield, Gloucester, Southampton, Portsmouth, Luton, Preston, Middlesborough and Merseyside.

We will work with local creatives and galleries/project spaces to create exhibitions, host workshops and discussions for the public which centre the theme of class within the arts. We are currently in the process of selecting Creatives to show work. We are also interested in commissioning a working-class writer to work on the vinyl and the press release for the show focusing on new ways of presenting work to the public. All artists will be paid a fee. We are also looking for a Working class photographer to document the exhibitions’

For the Convenience collaboration with WCCD they are looking to champion and exhibit 4 working class artists from across Merseyside for an exhibition that will take place in May 2023 with location TBC.
