Elizabeth Gaskell’s House have several vacancies on their board of trustees. They want to take this opportunity to widen the range of skills and backgrounds on their board. As they enter their second decade they have with ambitions to reach wider audiences, develop their visitor offer and play a full part in the cultural life of Manchester.

They welcome applications from people with a wide range of skills and experience and will look positively on applications from people from all backgrounds to create a board that reflects the city and our commitment to equality and diversity.

You don’t need to have had any former trustee experience. If you have experience in charity governance or leadership then that’s fantastic. However, it is not a requirement as they will provide induction and opportunities for development to support you in your role. All our trustees must be willing to learn about charity governance and be committed to the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion.

Head of Visitor Experience – The Dukes Playhouse Ltd, closes 17 May ’24

You will be passionate about ensuring the best possible experience for visitors to the theatre, whether that’s buying tickets, coming to see a show, visiting their gallery or hiring one of their spaces, or coming in for a drink and something to eat.

You will be responsible to the Chief Executive, be responsible for the Visitor Experience Team (comprising FOH, Box Office, Bar staff and Housekeeping Team as well as their team of volunteers), and you will work closely with the other members of the Senior Management team as well as the theatre’s Board of Trustees.

Finance Assistant – Halle Concerts Society, closes 8 May ’24

The Finance Assistant works in a department currently comprising Finance Director, Finance Manager, Assistant Finance Manager and Finance Assistant.

The department is responsible for all aspects of the financial affairs of the Society and its related trusts. The Finance Assistant is responsible to the Assistant Finance Manager.

The Finance Assistant supports all aspects of the Halle’s work at the Bridgewater Hall, the Halle Venues and concert halls across the UK.

They take responsibility for processing the day-to-day transactions of the company across purchase ledger, sales ledger and the cash book, and ensure the smooth operation of the office.

They will also need to work collaboratively with colleagues across the wider Halle as well as with external customers and suppliers.

The post is full-time permanent based on a 36.25-hour week. Our core office hours are 09.00-17:15, from Monday to Friday .There is an option to work up to 50% of hours from home.

Consideration will be given to applicants wanting to work part-time at an appropriate level to meet the requirements of the role.

Executive Assistant / HR Administrator – Royal Exchange Theatre, closes 7 May ’24

This is an exciting new role that provides excellent professional support across the Royal Exchange Theatre’s Executive and HR functions.

The role is split between providing administrative and organisational support to the Chief Executive and the Board (scheduling internal and external meetings, preparing paperwork for the governance cycle, minuting etc.) , and providing meticulous administrative HR support throughout the employee lifecycle under the guidance of the HR Manager.

In order to apply, we require you to have previous experience in a PA/secretarial role (or senior role within a charity or similar environment) and a professional, proactive approach. A high level of confidentiality, tact and discretion is a must. It’s desirable that you have knowledge of the HR function and have previously worked in the Arts, but it isn’t a barrier to applying if you don’t have experience of either.

As Head of Facilities Management, you will ensure the efficient and effective operation and upkeep of The Lowry building, with its theatres, visual art, restaurant, bar, coffee shop and gift shop. You will be responsible for establishing strategic direction, delivering maintenance, capital investment and contract procurement. Reporting into the Commercial Director you will lead on health & safety, environmental sustainability, financial budgeting & reporting

Managing the maintenance, cleaning and security teams, you will have experience in staff and relationship management & will be able to evidence excellent communication skills both within an organisation and externally.

We are keen to hear from North West based practitioners with a strong understanding of applied theatre practices, a passion for inspiring young people through creativity and a desire to bring the two together through creative workshops and projects. We are particularly keen to hear from practitioners who are able / willing to deliver workshops in evenings and weekends and are keen to work on longer term projects, developing relationships with young people and supporting their creative journeys. A good understanding of safeguarding practices is desirable, but training will also be provided.

Rates of pay around £30 per hour.
