Storyhunter – The Reader, closes 11 Apr ’24

The Storybarn is a creative, interactive environment in which children can feel thoroughly alive and creative in the company of quality literature. With Shared Reading at the heart of all that we do, we believe that books offer children a way to understand the world in which they live and the worlds inside themselves.

The Reader exists to provide book-routes into this inner space, and to develop shared understandings of both it, and the outer world. Training will be provided with space for creative adaptation of delivery for applicants to really make the role their own.

Business Development Manager – The Reader, closes 11 Apr ’24

The Business Development Manager sits in the Development Team, which is responsible for delivering income to sustain and grow The Reader’s work and developing relationships that can help make that work happen.

The Business Development Manager will be responsible for all commissioned income secured from NHS bodies, the criminal justice sector and from Local Authorities. These commissions may be to deliver Shared Reading in mental health settings or services, to read with those living in prison or probation settings or to deliver our Reading Heroes programme enabling us to read 1-2-1 with care experienced children. The post holder will hold a strategic overview within this area, ensuring a coherent and joined up approach to fundraising from within the public sector. Partnership working will be instrumental in the role, progressing key relationships, seeking potential new fruitful partnership opportunities, and working collaboratively across teams.

Person specification:

• Experience working in either a business development or marketing/sales role, fundraising or account management.
• Excellent verbal, presentation and written communication skills with the ability to understand, interpret, and present complex information in a persuasive and accurate way for a range of audiences both internally and externally
• Excellent interpersonal skills in order to understand needs of partners and build relationships.
• A proven track record of delivering to income targets with the ability to work under pressure and manage conflicting priorities.
• The ability to identify trends, think and plan strategically, shape projects or products and deliver to agreed timelines.
• An effective influencer and negotiator with a demonstrable ability to sell concepts in a clear and engaging way.

Children and Young Person Project Lead – The Reader, closes 11 Apr ’24

The CYP Lead is responsible for successfully delivering and closely monitoring the outcomes of our CYP focussed community projects. At present, this includes our Early Years focussed First Page Project, our Woodchurch High Reader in Residence Programme and our commissioned work with Alder Hey Hospital, but the nature and breadth of these projects is ever changing, so the landscape of this work may change.

You will have held a similar role, or roles which have equipped you with skills and experience that will enable you to build lasting relationships with a broad spectrum of people. We are looking for an experienced, creative person who:
• shares our ethos and values
• Completely believes in shared reading and the work of The Reader
• Has a proven track record in outreach work, partnership development and engaging hard to reach groups, individuals and children
• Experience of effective monitoring and evaluation of projects, achieving successful performance in a target driven culture.
• Comfortable dealing with a large number of partners at any one time – prioritising and quickly moving between partners who may have different needs. You will have developed techniques and ways of working through your experience that enable you to effectively prioritise, manage and execute a large volume of varied tasks successfully
• Ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels of seniority
• Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision
• Ability to plan and prioritise work when resources are limited and timescales are difficult
• Able to bring a positive, flexible approach to work, finding creative solutions to problems

You’ll be working in a small, fast-paced team that needs to be flexible to opportunities as they arise. This role will work across income streams, developing funding bids, cultivating and stewarding funders and partners and actively supporting the work of the Development Managers.

Person Specification:

Over the past 10 years we’ve been on a mission to unleash Britain’s creativity – wine glass in one hand, paintbrush in the other. At our events, guests (most of whom have never painted before) are guided step by step through a masterpiece while they sip, paint and create. Our events are high energy, no judgment, and lots of fun. So far we’ve painted with more than 60,000 people!

The ability to store kit, access to a car, and weekend availability are essential.

Senior Technician (Lighting) – Liverpool Empire Theatre, closes 14 Apr ’24

The Liverpool Empire Theatre has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to join us as a Senior Technician for Lighting. This role is an integral part of the technical team within this busy regional venue.

You will fully support the Head of Lighting and Sound in all aspects of lighting and sound, you will also work with the Technical team to drive forward the highest standards of technical support to visiting companies and in house projects. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate skills in Lighting including rigging, focusing, lighting design work, operation of lighting desks and have prior experience in large scale touring or venues.

The successful candidate must be an excellent team player with great communication skills and the ability to lead and motivate a large casual team as well as an ability to assist on stage when and if required. You will also have a good working knowledge of current health & safety legislation as well as working at height.
