The RNCM’s award-winning Library is looking to recruit to its small, dedicated team a part-time Library Assistant. The main duties for the successful applicant will be staffing the main service point, assisting users with enquiries and helping students with IT and other equipment. An excellent knowledge of classical music (preferably with a formal qualification), good communication, interpersonal and IT skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure, are essential requirements. Experience of working within a library or similar customer-service environment would be advantageous.

Strategic Lead – Light Up The North, closes 7 Oct

The Strategic Lead will focus on delivering specific strands of our programme of work set out in our recently successful National Arts Lottery Project application.

There will be support from key Sub-Groups made up of the full partners in the network (these cover Communications and Marketing; Co-commissioning; CPD and talent development and environmental sustainability). The Strategic Lead will also work closely with our Communications and Marketing Freelancer and have dedicated administration support.

The Strategic Lead will support the network to help light art festivals in the north deliver higher quality programmes, create new strategic partnerships in HE, be a fulcrum for more ambitious touring commissions and increase the number and ability of more diverse northern artists creating outstanding work at a national and international level. The Strategic Lead will help LUTN to become a robust, resilient sector-led network and will lead on a strategic review for organisational development beyond 2025.

LUTN’s objectives over the next 2 years are as follows:

a) establish strategic partnerships with, amongst others, the International Light Festivals Organisation, the Graphene Institute (University of Manchester), Culture Creative, Higher and Further Education, Outdoor Arts, Without Walls that will have a positive effect on the creative and cultural sector.

b) develop co-commissioning opportunities of larger scale, ambitious, innovative works with longer lead-in times, in association with new relationship partners, and increased co-touring to festivals across the north, nationally and internationally.

c) generate multiple talent platforms and programmes for diverse artists including an Artist’s Directory, SHINE, Spark, R&D LightLab, Light Gatherings, and a Light Up The North Community.

The Storybarn is a creative, interactive environment in which children can stretch their imaginations in the company of quality literature. With Shared Reading at the heart of all that we do, we believe that books offer children a way to understand the world in which they live and the worlds inside themselves. We’re coming into our busiest period of the year and we need Storyhunters on hand to deliver all aspects of our programming; to encourage children to engage as fully as possible with The Storybarn experience.

Training will be provided with space for creative adaptation of delivery for applicants to really make the role their own. This role could be for you if you:

Key Responsibilities

– Inspiring young people to love reading and to feel confident and relaxed in the company of books by being a lively, engaging and enthusiastic presence
– Creating an exciting, stimulating environment, to encourage children to make meaningful connections with books and stories. This may involve using props such as puppets, musical instruments and other items to stimulate creative play
– Leading delivery of a varied programme of sessions and events for babies, children and families across The Storybarn, The Mansion House and in Calderstones Park. This includes curriculum-based workshops for school groups of up to 35 children
– Bringing energy, warmth and enthusiasm as the host of Storybarn birthday parties
– Maintaining excellent customer service by providing a warm welcome and a safe, friendly and vibrant environment for all visitors. You’re the public face of The Reader and The Storybarn
– General housekeeping duties including opening/securing of premises, managing daily bookings list, ensuring resources are prepared, supplies topped up and that the barn is clean, tidy and well presented for delivery
– To support the development of content for our social media channels as advised by The Creative Coordinator.

Person Specification

– A genuine willingness to work as part of a lively team to help the Storybarn project evolve and develop in the most exciting and positive ways
– Able to adapt and change delivery in response to audience, unsupervised and self-motivated including the flexibility to work weekends on a rota basis
– Committed to providing excellent customer service
– Experience of working/volunteering with children
– Excellent at reading aloud
– Confident in dealing with the sometimes-challenging behaviours of children
– A flexible, playful and caring approach to working with children
– Self-motivated with the ability to work unsupervised
– Able to engage with parents, carers and teachers in a relaxed, open and non-judgemental manner
– Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
– Excellent timekeeping skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
– Proficient in the use of MS office and willing to learn other IT systems and software as we look to further develop our virtual offer (E.g. Zoom)

Desirable:

A confident copywriter with a passion for storytelling, the postholder will manage all PR and media relations for the organisation, developing and disseminating engaging content that captures, strengthens and evolves the RNCM’s award-winning narrative, brand and identity.

With a proven track record of working in PR, the media and/or communications, the postholder will collaborate with colleagues across departments to successfully implement strategic objectives for student recruitment, audience development and fundraising, striving to raise our profile regionally, nationally and internationally.

PURPOSE:

The Senior Venue Technician will work closely with the Technical Manager to ensure the effective delivery of all performances, events and conferences at The Stoller Hall and our other performance spaces across the site, including pop-up events in the Courtyard and Atrium.

They will manage the stage, technical and operational aspects of the concerts and events and deputise for the Technical Manager, acting as lead contact for visiting artists and clients on the day as required. They will prepare, rig and operate sound, lighting, audio-visual, projection and staging equipment as required, liaising with visiting artists, promoters and clients as well as members of Staff.
