Liverpool Bach Collective – Cantata 23 ‘Du wahrer Gott und Davids Sohn’

In the gospel reading of the day, John the Baptist welcomes Jesus as the 'Lamb of God' and the term is echoed in this cantata, especially in the conclusion, which is a direct appeal for mercy to the Lamb of God. Scored for an instrumental ensemble of oboes, bassoon, strings and organ, the music includes a vocal duet and two fine choruses.
