Mark Watson: Before It Overtakes Us

Mark Watson: Before It Overtakes Us

20 years in stand-up for the ‘Taskmaster’ cheeky texts icon, multi-award-winner, YouTube cult figure, Radio 4 favourite and recently ‘Baby Reindeer’ actor: Watson returns after seasons at the Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Edinburgh comedy festivals. A recent encounter with a stranger caused Mark to spend some time pondering the uncertain future facing humanity. He explores this – along with equally pressing matters like the worst word he has ever said in public, the current state of the UK sausage industry, and much more – in a typically frantic and fun-packed new show.

Nurse Georgie Carroll: Infectious

Georgie Carroll is best known as the UK born, Australia based Nurse turned comedian. She grafted for 20 years on the healthcare front line before swapping the pen torch for the spotlight!

Nurse Georgie has now retired from nursing but has taken with her an unparalleled comedy voice and a staunch online medical following that have made her viral, in the best way, many times over. The most viewed of her viral clips is the ‘3 stages of nursing’ – the terms dolphin, penguin, and orca used in the clip are now ingrained in international nursing vernacular!

Georgie is an undeniable live comedy powerhouse, having sold in excess of 75,000 tickets, selling out her debut Edinburgh Fringe Festival, touring four countries, and woinning the Best Comedy Award at the Adelaide Fringe. A versatile and dynamic performer, Georgie has swapped operating theatres for the London Palladium, the Sydney Opera house, and the Hammersmith Apollo.

Not shy of the camera, Georgie has released two comedy specials on Australian television and is a regular on the box, having been seen on ‘The Project’, ‘Would I Lie to You?’, ‘Have you Been Paying Attention?’, ‘Just for Laughs’ and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Allstar and Oxfam Galas. She recently stormed her UK TV debut by reaching the live semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent and was adored by audiences and judges alike.

Georgie also has a podcast because who doesn’t? Her hit podcast, The Swab, is now in its 3rd Season with over 125,000 listens and a nomination for Best Comedy podcast under it’s belt. Georgie said “The podcast didn’t set out to be funny, it was just me chatting to everyday nurses, staff room banter style. Turns out that this format is never not funny’’.

Georgie is also an acclaimed and best-selling author and wrote the best-selling nursing bible ‘Off the Charts’ (Pan Macmillan), which was nominated for the Russel Prize for humour writing.

Everything Georgie does is a genuine, hilarious, riotous celebration of the big hearted, no bullshit nurses that sooner or later play a part in all our lives.

Barry From Watford: Shooting From The New Hip

Demagogue? Iconoclast? Dilettante? Virtuoso? Ok, these words have nothing to do with the show but they do make it sound clever and that’s what it’s all about. Shooting from the (new) hip, still alive and kicking, the nation’s favourite octogenarian and hit of Radio 2’s Steve Wright in the Afternoon and Sky Atlantic’s Common Ground returns with his stand-up show armed with fierce one-liners, biting satire plus some effing and that sort of thing for the teens. A rip-roaring, fast-paced hilarious show.

‘Top quality character comedy’ (Guardian).

‘Alex Lowe’s stunning creation’ (Time Out).

‘Wonderfully observed … poignant and very funny’ (Bruce Dessau, Evening Standard).

92 year old Barry from Watford was first brought to public consciousness when he became a cult star on Iain Lee’s LBC 97.3FM phone-in show. London listeners loved Barry’s sunny outlook and joie de vie and followed him to Iain Lee’s show on Absolute Radio. He was also a regular feature in the form of the “lifestyle guru” on Steve Wright in the Afternoon on BBC Radio 2.

His viral hits about ‘Minty Biscuits’ and ‘Carpetright’ have amassed 100s of millions of hits whilst his Channel 4 game show with Noel Edmonds “Cheap Cheap Cheap” had literally 100s of viewers.

…And now he’s back!

Comedy Club 4 Kids

It’s a comedy club, right, but for kids. Also any adults who enjoy a swear-free hour with the international circuit’s best stand-ups and sketch acts. Non-patronising. Pure awesome.

Since 2005, the Comedy Club 4 Kids has been getting the best stand-ups and sketch acts from the international circuit to do their thing for an audience of children (aged 6+) and their families… but without the rude bits!

A decade later, the company has expanded from one London residency to being countrywide, running shows and workshops all over the UK from Peebles to Portsmouth, even producing a book on how to write and perform stand-up.

The show is family friendly, but without any patronising idiocy. In fact, it’s just like a normal comedy club, but it’s on in the day, kids are allowed in, and thus there is a higher than usual chance of heckles like “why is that your face!?”

Josh Widdicombe is back on tour, not again! By now he has almost certainly mastered the art of stand-up, either that or he has wasted the last 15 years of his life. Come along and decide for yourself. Expect it to be shorter and with lower production values than Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, but funnier and with more references to tea.Josh co-hosts the hugely popular podcast Parenting Hell with Rob Beckett, which has somehow become so popular that they undertook a live arena tour in 2023 and released a book which topped the Sunday Times Bestseller Charts. Have you ever been awake in the middle of the night and thought something so smart and astute that you couldn’t wait for the world to wake up so you could tell them?

THIS SHOW IS THAT THOUGHT.

In that it doesn’t make much sense and is a bit weird on reflection.

Sara Pascoe is a comedian and her children don’t sleep and her kitchen won’t clean itself and her husband “doesn’t want to be in it”.

Grayson Perry: Are You Good?

Are You Good? A question that I think is fundamental to our humanity. In this show I will be helping you, the audience, find out if you really are thoroughly good or maybe quite evil, but in a fun way.

I always start out with the assumption that people are born good and then life happens. So, let’s pull back the curtain and see where your morals truly lie. Are you as virtuous as you think? With lots of audience participation (don’t worry, no one leaves unscathed) and a few silly songs we’ll have an entertaining evening and come out with our core values completely in tatters. Is it more important to be good or to be right?

It’s time to update what is a virtue and what is a sin. No biggie.
