ANNA B SAVAGE

POP3, our annual Climate Conference, is headlined this year by the singular Anna B Savage on Thursday 20th November.

A sense of rootedness is at the heart of her third record ‘You and i are Earth’, a record that is as much about healing as it is an unbowed sense of curiosity, and, more simply, “a love letter to a man and to Ireland.”

Following on from her critically acclaimed records A Common Turn and in|FLUX, ‘You and i are Earth’ manages to convey a sense of intimacy, while also being open-ended. Sounds of the sea and bright-eyed strings coax us on opening song Talk to Me, a study in tenderness, which brings us to a place of the elemental. It is a charged signifier that sets the tone, “I don’t think I feel nervous because of the intimacy of it,” says Savage, “the thing I feel nervous about is that it is so delicate and subtle, and the attention economy has made us desire big shiny things that will whisk us away.”

Yet ‘You and i are Earth’ transports differently, swept along by an abiding sense of calm.

This will be a solo performance.

April Moon + Friends

APRIL MOON return for a special winter edition of their Americana showcase, and they’ve pulled out all the stops for another spectacular bill of the finest acts around.

Combining their irresistibly charming, boot-stompin’ tunes with intertwined twangy and jangly guitars, powerful vocal harmonies and a kick drum made from an old suitcase, Jaime April and Jason Moon make up the alt-country / Canadiana duo APRIL MOON. Known for their fun, well crafted songwriting, these two play the hell out of their instruments, leaving toes tapping, cheeks aching from smiling, and spirits lifted sky-high. Growing up on the wild prairies beside the North Saskatchewan River in Canada, embracing the open road became a necessity to travel between venues and the pair haven’t put down roots since, splitting their time between several countries a year and living out of a cool campervan they call ‘The Clubhouse’.

Support comes from Jukehouse Junkies, Megan Lee, Vox Americana, and Alice Ashe.

Doors at 4:30pm. Tickets on sale now.

WILL VARLEY

We welcome Brixton-born folk songwriter Will Varley on Friday 5th December, an artist that stays true to the roots of folk by combining personal storytelling with political statements.
He joins us this Winter in support of his new album, ‘Machines Will Never Learn To Make Mistakes Like Me’ (out 30th May). Inspired by his natural habitats of the East Kent Coast and the US Midwest, the album is full of songs are rich, lyrical tales that speak of hard touring, relationships on the rocks and the rebuilding of minds. Featuring some very special guest appearances including Billy Bragg, Eleni Drake & Bastille’s Dan Smith, the album continues Varley’s decade long exploration of the human condition, this time focusing on society’s ever-present threat of impending apocalypse, how we marry this with the mundane and the minutiae of our everyday lives and how we can find hope.
