Baritone Tayo Aluko and composer Andrew Barney present a programme including a new song cycle inspired by Black History related to Liverpool.
Aluko has compiled words taken from a letter written by Nigerian Pastor Daniels Ekarte of Liverpool’s African Churches Mission in 1941; an interview with Gee Walker (mother of Anthony) forgiving her son’s murderers; a Slavery Remembrance Day lecture given at Liverpool Town Hall by Professor of African History Hakim Adi on the teaching of Black History and referencing the Haitian Revolution, and a poem by Aluko himself, inspired by a Black Lives Matter Protest at St. George’s Plateau in 2020.
Nigerian-born Tayo Aluko worked as an architect in Liverpool for several years before switching to full-time writing and performing. He has since toured the world with two plays: Call Mr. Robeson and Just An Ordinary Lawyer. His latest, Coleridge-Taylor of Freetown, was premiered in May 2024 and is part of a forthcoming festival devoted to the composer.
Local scouse composer Andrew Barney is the tenth and current winner of the Rushworth Composition Prize with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. A polyglot and genre-spanning musician, he weaves language, culture and identity into powerful musical storytelling while supporting Black creatives through PRS Foundation’s Power Up.

It was 2015 when Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon officially released to great acclaim the self-and-fan-funded Autumn in the Neighbourhood, the seventh China Crisis studio album.
Available to purchase then only directly from the band either online or at shows, the work has been hailed as “adventurous and contemporary” and “intimate”, “a return to the band’s heady songwriting strengths”, with one reviewer surmising that “one simply capitulates to the sheer gorgeousness of it all”.
By popular demand the album is now headed for a label-backed worldwide relaunch for its 10th anniversary in 2025 on Last Night from Glasgow records. To mark this momentous event and celebrate the album’s decennary, Gary and Eddie have planned a singular, exclusive event: for one very special night only, a specially-chosen, extended China Crisis band will perform Autumn in the Neighbourhood live in its entirety (along with a selection of additional China Crisis classics) at the stunning Tung Auditorium, situated within the Yoko Ono Lennon Centre in their home city of Liverpool.

Anil Srinivasan, an award winning Indian pianist, and Dr Jayanthi Kumaresh, a virtuoso of the Saraswathi Veena, have forged a remarkable musical partnership through their innovative collaboration, notably showcased in their project The Stringmasters.
They were first brought together by Milap in 2013 for a concert at London’s Southbank Centre, where they discovered a natural synergy between the piano and veena, both string instruments. Their remarkable ability in blending Western and Carnatic classical traditions to create a unique ‘third space’ of musical expression has been winning fans worldwide.
This partnership, marked by performances at venues as diverse as the Riverside Theatre in Sydney, the Habitat in Delhi, Bengaluru’s Jagriti Theatre and Chennai’s The ARTery, emphasises intuitive and genre-neutral explorations of ragas. They are often accompanied by percussionists of great repute such as Giridhar Udupa. Their work, celebrated for breaking artistic barriers, integrates classical depth with contemporary accessibility, engaging diverse audiences globally while redefining the boundaries of Indian and Western musical dialogues.
