A couple of weeks back STONE went on a UK tour with an ethos of supporting independent venues in a live music industry that is becoming increasingly difficult to operate in.
They arrived home to find a venue here in a similar circumstance. QUARRY is a bar and venue in the industrial part of Liverpool which has been host to a lot of good events, from gigs to raves to film nights since 2019 – they even have an early live session recorded there back in 2020.
Currently, their location is being closed down but the team is raising funds to find a new space for a new venue.
Anyone from Liverpool knows the wonderful venues we’ve lost over the years, from the Kazimier, to Sound Basement and Studio 2. Conversations about Liverpool usually bring up this loss of spaces and how antithetical that feels as a city with such a musical heritage. So when STONE saw the team at QUARRY are raising money they thought they could help.
On Thursday 12 December, they are putting on a night of music with all profits from tickets and merch sales to go to the team in rebuilding a new venue. Big thanks to the acts on their line-up for joining them and supporting this cause – two of their contemporaries who have been a part of Liverpool music along with them.
Expect a night like never before. Not only will you experience Xander and The Peace Pirates music but you’ll get a glimmer into their life with Alex Riley hosting a live Q&A as they tell tales on how they navigate the industry.

Lead singer and guitarist Keith Xander was born without a right arm (below the elbow) and plays his guitar using a prosthesis and hook with a pick attached at the end – so it will be a very interesting, intimate night of music and storytelling.
The first gig at Maguire’s Pizza Bar was on 16th March 2013. The venue is still going strong as Outpost so we’re having a party to celebrate 12 years of shows!
They’ve asked some old friends to join them on Saturday 15th March 2025 at Outpost and they’d love you to join them too!

Mary Coughlan is often described as the greatest female vocalist that Ireland has ever produced, standing alongside some of the world’s most iconic jazz singers.
She is unique in blending whisky-blurred, smoke-seared, husky notes with the laconic wit of Billie Holiday and Peggy Lee. She draws the line of deep, down and dirty blues singers back to Bessie Smith with the sardonic, bitter-sweet defiance and despair of Edith Piaf. Yet Mary Coughlan delivers it all in a delicious and unapologetic Irish drawl: sceptical, rueful, mournful and melting and ardent for love.
Mary Coughlan is one of our greatest singers because over 40 years she has made the most grown-up, uncompromising, wholly personal yet utterly universal music on either side of the Atlantic about what goes on between men and women.
A programme for inner peace, combining medieval sounds with the contemporary voices of Arvo Pärt, Will Todd and Anna Clyne.
In an age of resurgent conflict and frenetic demands on our attention, our 2025 Choral Pilgrimage: Angel of Peace offers a slice of tranquillity in many forms courtesy of luminous, purifying music traversing six centuries. From the enraptured songs of medieval abbess Hildegard of Bingen and the mesmeric soundworld of Arvo Pärt, to the magical realm of a brand new work for choir and solo violin by composer Anna Clyne, nine pieces of music from across the centuries speak of peace and acceptance and the ecstatic joy their reassurance can bring.
This year’s tour takes its title from words by Cardinal Newman, set to music by Will Todd – ‘Let me be an angel of peace’. Newman’s meditation on the challenge of existence suggests life’s deepest valleys only help its highest mountains feel more wonderful. Perhaps, when we see that joy co-exists with sadness, we’ve been visited by our own Angel of Peace.

No Fun presents Portuguese electro-psych punks MAQUINA. at Future Yard on Sunday 16th February 2025.
Drawing inspiration from repetition/minimalism-centered styles such as Krautrock and Industrial Techno, MAQUINA. fearlessly explores the boundaries of these genres by incorporating elements of rock and electronic music into their distinctive sound.
With their energetic performances that blend dance culture with heavy-hook songcraft, the band quickly gained a reputation among audiences. One of the standout features of MAQUINA.’s live performances is their commitment to authenticity and musicality. Unlike many electronic acts that heavily rely on machines and programmed beats, this trio challenges convention by excluding the use of machines and clicks during their concerts. Instead, they embrace the raw power of live instruments, providing an electrifying experience that resonates with the audience on a deeper level.
