The Vaccines

The new era of The Vaccines is here! The band play a special show to promote their new album at CONTENT.

Their new album Pick-up Full of Pink Carnations will be released January 12th 2024. The first single, Heartbreak Kid was released October 2023. They recently completed a successful U.S. tour with The Kooks and are now embarking on a full European set of dates.

Stereolab

Stereolab return to Liverpool with a special show at CONTENT.

With their hypnotic rhythms and mesmerizing vocals, Stereolab became one of indie’s most distinctive and influential bands when they emerged in the early ’90s.

Led by Tim Gane and Laetitia Sadier, the group celebrated strands of pop music — bossa nova, lounge-pop, movie soundtracks — that were traditionally banished from rock’s lineage.

Lisa Lambe: NightVisiting

Based on her work with the National Folklore Collection and her recent MA in Irish Folklore, internationally acclaimed Irish folk singer and actor Lisa Lambe brings us her new project, NightVisiting.

Lisa collaborates with renowned traditional musicians alongside local contributors to create a unique performance bespoke to each venue she visits celebrating the old songs, stories and tunes from around the hearth.

NightVisiting reconnects the audience to the social role that nighttime house visits once played in our oral traditions and folklore, and in the preservation of our songs and stories from tender love songs to the bawdy, to songs of loss and longing.

Supported by the Institute of Irish Studies as part of the Liverpool Irish Festival.

Soirées Musicales

After their hugely acclaimed performance of Madama Butterfly, Orchestra dell’Arte are returning to St George’s Hall on Monday 16 October with a new evening concert series in the Concert Room.

Forget the rush home from work but relax and have a leisurely drink and a sandwich then stroll down to St George’s where the Orchestra dell’Arte will transport you to another dimension with their new series of Soirées Musicales.

Relax in comfortable surroundings whilst conductor Edward Peak tells you about the music and hidden stories of musical life. Make new friends, bring your colleagues along and chat with the orchestra members.

Starting at 7.30pm we begin, rather appropriately, with the sparkling suite of Rossini’s music known as Soirées Musicales, from which the series title is derived.

Tenor Nick Hardy (Pinkerton in Butterfly) is joining us straight from the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and will lull us into a fully relaxed state with some of the best-known Neapolitan songs – think Pavarotti and Addio.

Sir Arthur Sullivan’s only symphony, known as The Irish, will be the second part of this concert. It is bubbling over with Sullivan’s trademark warmth and melody along with subtle hints of his family’s Irish origins.

Come to this event and prepare to be relaxed, amazed and thrilled. An evening not to be missed.

Tickets are £17.50 from www.eventbrite.co.uk (search Orchestra dell’Arte).

Sparkling voices, bright melodies and WB Yeats’s greatest poems; they all come together in Yeats to Music.

The performers are a bunch of charming Belgians who love Irish poetry. So much so, they released an album of 10 original songs, based on poems by Yeats. So, rise and go. Celebrate the centenary of Yeats being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature with Brandies Band and the wonderful voices of Factor 7. Sing along with the chorus of Words; be touched by Never Give all the Heart and clap along with The Song of Wandering Aengus.

No better way to round off the weekend than attending this joyful concert.

Illapu

One of Chile’s most celebrated and successful groups – and pioneers of ‘Folklore Andino’, a blend of traditional Andean Folk music with more modern sounds and rhythms – Illapu have had a storied career stretching back over 50 years, in turn soundtracking the fortunes of their homeland for the past half century.

Formed in 1971, in Antofagasta (Northern Chile), Illapu first achieved national acclaim in 1976 with one of their most beloved songs, “Candombe Para Jose”; but by 1980 had fallen foul of the Pinochet regime and were forced into exile. Their 1993 LP “En Estos Dias” – recorded soon after their return – went on to become one of the country’s highest selling albums ever.

This sole UK date has been made possible by Liverpool’s own LUMA CREATIONS, and forms an integral part of this year’s Chile 50 programme – marking the 50th anniversary of the military coup in Chile which saw the death of the democratically elected president, Salvador Allende, the murder of thousands of Chileans, and the forced exile of hundreds of thousands more. The leader of the coup, General Augusto Pinochet ruled Chile from 1973-1990 with an iron fist, overseeing concentration camps throughout the country and a litany of other human rights abuses. Chile 50 commemorates all those who were lost, fought or displaced and celebrates half a century of solidarity and resistance.
