Join MakeFest at Liverpool Central Library for another festival of making fun and creativity.
Liverpool MakeFest is the UK’s biggest FREE ‘Maker’ event, a one-day hybrid technology, arts and craft festival where Makers from across the UK get together to share and show their projects to the public with the hope of enthusing the next generation of creative technologists and artists . It’s a fun, buzzing, educational and often surprising day for the whole family that takes place in the unique and stunning setting of Liverpool Central Library. And what’s more, it’s all Free!
Although this is general theme most years we’ve decided to go large on the themes of sustainability and renewables.
Makers will be showcasing their creations and inspiring the next generations to put sustainability at the forefront of everything they do and demonstrate how they can find solutions to reach Net Zero and protect the planet through innovation and creative thinking

Wirral’s largest free art event returns on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June as a record 99 artists prepare to take part in this year’s Wirral Open Studio Tour.
Now in its 14th year of celebrating visual arts across the peninsula, the tour sees artists and makers opening the doors to their homes or studios for one weekend each June.
The event gives visitors an exciting opportunity to meet artists and chat to them about their processes, as well as buy from them direct. You’ll discover creatives working in a wide variety of disciplines, including painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, glass, textiles, photography and woodworking.
With a choice of 53 studio venues to explore this year – from rural courtyard studios to homes with a sea view, converted back rooms, creative hubs and gallery spaces – you’re guaranteed to discover some hidden treasures.
All studios are open from 10am – 5pm on Saturday 8th June and Sunday 9th June, with a selection also open from 6pm – 9pm on Friday 7th June.
To help you plan your arty weekend, a free colour brochure listing all the artists and venue locations can be downloaded from the wirralarts.com website. You’ll also find printed copies at galleries, cafes, community centres and libraries in the run-up to the event.
Liverpool is turning into Taylor Town in time for Taylor Swift’s sold-out shows at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium this June.
Liverpool Loves Taylor Events
Taylor Town Trail
The Taylor Town Trail will be the centrepiece with 11 art installations, each inspired by a different Taylor Swift Era.
From Saturday 8 until Sunday 16 June , locations such as Liverpool ONE, Royal Albert Dock Liverpool and the Metquarter will play host to new works which reflect the style and stories of each album to create amazing Swiftie Selfie locations!
Liverpool City Council’s Culture Liverpool team has partnered up with creative social enterprise Make CIC and a whole host of artists and makers from across the Liverpool City Region to curate the installations which will include:
- A moss-covered grand piano to represent the evermore era
- A ‘red room’ to represent the Red era
- Giant hearts representing the Lover era
- A mural inspired by the number 13 and the Fearless era
Taylor Swift-Themed Craft Workshops
Alongside this, a series of ticketed craft workshops – called Liverpool Loves Taylor (Craft Version) – will also take place at the Metquarter, where you can get creative with origami which will eventually form part of one of the installations, transform t-shirts in a session called Swif-tee Transformation, upcycle denim, make collages and decorate cupcakes – all inspired by Taylor Swift.

University of Liverpool’s Tay Day
Businesses and organisations across the city will be getting involved in the Taylor action, including the University of Liverpool who are hosting a FREE Tay Day on 12 June –a unique symposium for academics, students and fans to unpack the cultural phenomenon that is Taylor Swift.
The event will include critical karaoke sessions, where researchers perform their findings to some of Taylor’s biggest hits and a series of interactive talks on subjects including her song lyrics, her award-winning albums and her place in feminism and the LGBTQ+ community. Hilbre Island is an awesome gem of the North West of England, being only a stone’s throw away from Liverpool and Manchester.
There are limited opportunities to do this walk, so book early…
The walk is flat, lasting about 2 1/2 hours, but be aware that there are some dangerous cliffs, and it can be slippery and uneven underfoot at times. The guide’s foremost objective is to keep you safe, they will ensure that your journey is well paced and suited to the ability of the individual group. There are basic toilets facilities on the island.
Taking full advantage of the limited tidal windows to get a good look at all the island’s wild life and especially the seals. The Autumn is special as we say hello to all the birds migrating through the Dee Estuary at this time.

Everything you can see and do at Liverpool ONE this February half term
It’s the first break of the year, and they’re all about Sharing the Love at Liverpool ONE as we gear up towards yet another memorable year in the city.
Half Term is the perfect opportunity to take some time to get out into the city, and tick off those brands you (and the kids!) have been waiting to try. If you’re yet to experience Gravity MAX, the sheer amount of fun on offer is about to blow you away! Just about every arcade game is on offer – there’s so much for parents and kids to get excited about. And we’re a bit of a hub for entertainment too, as the amazing leveltap, Escape Live, On the Green and Junkyard Golf Club are also on the menu for activities to get stuck into.
Kids love the dining brands we have on offer, and you will, too – the popular kids eat for less or free deals are back, with free meals at YO!, Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen and TGI Fridays, and great-value menus at GBK and Zizzi.
There’s fun to be had across the board in their shops, as kids who love toys and games can enjoy John Lewis, a world of books at Waterstones (be sure to visit their fab reading corner!) and of course, specialty shops like LEGO and Kenji.

Liverpool is the city for celebration, and we’re getting in on the action too, with stunning Chinese lanterns adorning our trees and artwork across our streets in celebration of Lunar New Year, providing the perfect backdrop to this city-wide celebration, which just gets bigger and better every year.
