Routes Jukebox Revisited

The award-winning music documentary returns for a special, free screening at FACT.

Routes Jukebox is a music lover’s dream documentary, exploring Country, Punk, Reggae and House to name a few of the genres that Liverpool excels at. Routes Jukebox threads the themes and links it all through a compelling journey.

In addition to the screening, there will also be a stellar panel discussion unpacking the making of the documentary with producer Jernice Easthope and music industry stalwart Les Spaine, hosted by musician Jennifer John.

Ahead of the screening, there will also be a warm-up conversation with leading creatives from Liverpool who will discuss the importance of support and platforms for Black creatives.

The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And Her ...

Written and directed by Peter Greenaway, The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And Her Lover centres around Le Hollandais gourmet restaurant – where every night is filled with opulence, decadence and gluttony.

But when the cook, a thief, his wife and her lover all come together, they unleash a shocking torrent of sex, food, murder and revenge.

This screening is part of Liverpool Architectural Society’s new curated film series Consuming Architecture. The series highlights three diverse films, each exploring the subject of food.

The parallels between food and architecture often overlap – from the way that raw materials are sourced, processed and consumed to our understanding of both food and architecture’s global, environmental and sustainable impact.

Eternal Beauty (15)

Lucem House is supporting St Helens Mind at this screening of ‘Eternal Beauty’ (15) for World Mental Health Day 2022.

After Jane (Sally Hawkins) falls into a state of despair over her schizophrenia, she encounters new sources of love and life with surprising results.

REMOTE

REMOTE follows Unoaku, an expat architect living in a solar-punk apartment in Kuala Lumpur.

Unoaku and four other women living on their own in Iran, Argentine, Puerto Rico and South Africa. While watching a popular South Korean dog grooming show, the five women discover they are connected through mysterious portals hidden in their homes.

Embarking on a quest for answers, they use the portals to bridge the distance between them, uncovering a phenomenon with universe-altering consequences.

Set in a near future, Mika Rottenberg and Mahyad’s Tousi’s debut feature-length film explores what it means to be connected in this global age of pandemics, and the escalating reach of technology into the lives of billions of people around the world.

ANNE+ Viewing Party

ANNE+ is a drama series about the (love)life of Anne, a twenty-something lesbian living in Amsterdam.

In each episode we learn more about Anne and her past and present love interests as well as her friends, family and colleagues.

The show was initiated by the creators because of the lack of positive queer representation in film and television. The ANNE+ team is composed of mostly female, queer filmmakers who feel personally connected to the series and want to make a difference.

What began as a crowdfunded project was soon joined by Millstreet Films and BNNVARA, and later became a Netflix film.

Withnail and I

London, 1969. Fed up with damp, cold, piles of washing-up, mad drug dealers and psychotic Irishmen, a pair of substance-abusing, perpetually out-of-work actors decide to leave their squalid Camden flat for an idyllic holiday in the countryside.

But when Withnail and Marwood arrive in Cornwall, it doesn’t seem much better than London – and things are not helped by the arrival of Withnail’s Uncle Monty.

Featuring organ prelude from resident organist Dave Nicholas.

In the 35 years since its release, Withnail and I has become ‘one of Britain’s biggest cult films’ (BBC). It features a debut from Richard E Grant, who will be coming to Liverpool Philharmonic Hall in October to share stories of his life and career.
